MOVIE REVIEW: Everyday I Love You (2015)

Everyday I Love You serves as the second time Liza Soberano and Enrique Gil are paired in a movie. ABS-CBN and Star Cinema very well know how to strike whilst the iron is hot but this one is just too soon given that its release is just a few months after two projects: their successful TV tandem in the evening teleserye Forevermore and their first movie Just the Way You Are.

In Mae Cruz-Alviar’s Everyday I Love You, not only is the grammar in the movie title taken for granted (a classic case of Every Day vs. Everyday–and let’s not forget about the missing comma), it seems that the entire movie has no regard to keeping things believable, let alone relatable. What it does best is to keep the audiences knowing what will happen next without giving the slightest chance for surprise or contemplation.

That just got to be your typical Star Cinema flick: pair up your best love team, throw in a superficial (and not to mention wholesome) plot, pepper it with supporting characters that are most of the time irrelevant, drench every scene with a love song that has a dedicated two-minute music video in the middle of the story, present a petty conflict, let the characters confront one another with loud voices and gallons of tears, and provide a happily-ever-after conclusion to an otherwise convenient love story.

And we have not even started with the flow of the story or how the story is superficial and immature! Or how it is barely possible for Gerald’s Tristan to speak clearly and that easily after having been comatose for more than six months and having undergone tracheostomy. Or how Liza’s Audrey is such a crybaby when she is supposed to be a strong girl. Or how Enrique’s Ethan is no different than his previous characters with his sticky stare and sugarcoated delivery of lines.

Aren’t we supposed to stop with make-believes that do not make sense?

  6. I agree… Fan ako ng LizQuen pero both of their movies disappointed me.

  9. The genre of the movie is rom-com wherein their target audience are mostly teens. We cannot really compare it with Lino Brocka’s or Ishmael Bernal’s films. They may have omitted several scenes that resulted to the unnoticed time lapse in the movie. I myself was dismayed because the scenes that we were so expecting to be shown on this movie were omitted. But all in all it was fun to watch makes me feel young again.

    so medyo agree ako sayo.

    lizquen fan here.

May pa-karma karma kapa dyan.

It’s one thing to disagree with the review it’s another to assume that the writer’s a low-life who doesn’t know what he’s saying. Not only are you making him popular, you’re also showing how insecure and narrow-minded you are. Tapos mali pa ang grammar ninyo. Laugh trip na nakakainis haha.

  13. I do agree with the writer that Filipino romcoms can be very trite with petty plot lines and sloppy writing… But that doesn’t just go for romcoms, it goes for almost all local films. But on the other hand I think melodramatic love stories with a kilig factor is very culturally filipino, and so something to be embraced not frowned upon. Plus… People love it! Isn’t that the purpose of stories in the first place? To make people happy? romcoms don’t HAVE to be technically bad.. There are some Hollywood romcoms that are written with razor sharp precision, like 50 first dates. So maybe the solution is for everyone to stop bashing each other and instead try giving constructive criticism? Bashing will get us nowhere, but maybe if everyone gave an idea on how the movie could’ve been better, then maybe writers can learn from their mistakes and little by little we can start writing better scripts, and ultimately, make better movies. I still have faith in Philippine cinema.. People like Erik Matti are really beginning to transcend the industry standards. With education I think we can all learn to follow suit.

  15. I must say it’s an okay film. I agree with you… but i myself can relate to this film. it’s not about those lines and sweet scenes and “unconvincing” situations, it’s about all about choosing… and it is what drives me to still continue watching after an hour and a 50 minute story. Credits excluded.
