‘One Great Love’ review: Unexpected twist of love and heartbreak

One Great Love propels love-hate feels with an amazing story played out by remarkable performances of Kim Chiu, Dennis Trillo, and JC De Vera.

‘One Great Love’ revolves around the story of Zyra Paez (Kim Chiu), whose relationship with Carl Mauricio (JC de Vera) has failed. She decides to give their relationship one more try but soon finds herself filled with doubt over her life choices. It then makes her life both happy and sad. The situation gets even more complex when her best friend Ian Arcano (Dennis Trillo), a heart doctor, who later becomes her confidante, leaves to decide if he indeed is ‘the one’ for her. It’s a story of how a relationship works and how to find the meaning of one great love.

The film intends to help the viewers understand what one is willing to do when it comes to love. It shows the struggles of characters who are willing to take risks just to be with the ones they consider as their great love. The story is mixed with a lot of twists and hugot, to which viewers can relate. It’s surprising to see unexpected turns which are not apparent in any of its trailers.

Supporting the three lead stars are are some notable characters. There’s Dante (Eric Quizon), Zyra’s father, who has never gotten over his one great love, but soon discovers a second chance in love through Annie (Niña Dolina), his second wife, who is also a firm believer that there is such a thing as ‘one great love.’ Jemi (Miles Ocampo) is Zyra’s practical-thinking sister who challenges the latter’s view on love. Then there’s Bryan Gomez (Marlo Mortel), a loving guy who falls in love with Jemi.

Writer Gina Marissa Tagasa and director Eric Quizon are able to collaborate in weaving an accessible love story geared to stir emotions from start to finish. There are many scenes filled with kilig feels and there are those that would make you switch on which of the two guys to root for—all of which are cleverly framed by the film’s director of photography, Mo Zee. Plus, its choice of theme song, “Dating Tayo” by TJ Monterde (which is personally handpicked by Kim Chiu herself), matches the overall atmosphere of the movie.

Kim, Dennis, and JC level up there acting skills as they relay believable performances.

Kim has gone a long way and has finally veered from her usual antics by having a more mature portrayal. She had a couple of love scenes with Dennis and JC respectively—something fans could look forward to watching out for. In an interview, Kim confessed that she found it very challenging to pull off these scenes. It’s good to see that the final product has shown her versatility as an actress.

Her screen partners have different approaches. Dennis leaves a solid impact amidst his minimalistic approach. He connects well with Kim and forms a remarkable chemistry with her on screen. On another hand, JC plays well as a ‘good’ looking guy, despite my uncomfortable feeling with the choices made by his character.

Regal Entertainment’s ‘One Great Love’ is easily an entertaining entry to this year’s Metro Manila Film Festival with its relatable stories of love and heartache.

WATCH: Teaser for ‘One Great Love’ tangles Kim Chiu, Dennis Trillo, JC de Vera

Regal Entertainment, Inc. has just unveiled the first teaser for ‘One Great Love,’ an official entry to the upcoming 2018 Metro Manila Film Festival. Starring A-listers Dennis Trillo, JC de Vera, and Kim Chiu, it will be shown in cinemas nationwide starting December 25.

We all wish that we find our One Great Love in this lifetime with whom we hope to spend the rest of our lives with. But are we willing to make the sacrifices and go through all the pain to attain it and keep it? Is our One Great Love provided by destiny or do we get to choose?

Every year, Regal Entertainment, Inc., creates an entry/entries to the annual film festival to adhere to its commitment in bringing quality entertainment for moviegoers. This Christmas, the film production outfit is bringing together a stellar cast from two major TV networks to breathe life to one great movie, entitled One Great Love.

The romance drama film, a hugot – bangon film, tackles a subject that everybody is highly familiar with and which we can all relate to: love and relationships. The story tackles about love, which remains to be one of the greatest mysteries up to this day. Falling in love with someone is one thing, but staying in love with that person is another story.

Kim shows a different side of her in this movie. Mainly known for tackling romantic-comedy roles in movies, Kim goes out of her comfort zone and portrays another mature character. The bubbly bungisngis Kim Chiu will not be seen in Zyra, her character in the movie. She is expected to have love scenes in this film.

ABS-CBN premier artist Kim Chiu portrays the role of Zyra Paez, a woman fortunate enough to know and be with her one great love.

JC portrays the role of Carl Mauricio. Carl’s turbulent past has left a scarred, and in the process, keeps hurting the woman who did nothing but love him over anything else.

Kapuso dramatic actor Dennis is Dr. Ian Arcano, a heart doctor who firmly believes in the sanctity of family and keeping it that way. Ian is a dependable friend to Zyra, but then eventually falls in love with her.

The lives of Zyra, Carl, and Ian are intertwined with one another in a story that reveals to us that like every human being, we all seek for love, but our views about it differ.

“Magagaling lahat dito umarte. Baka makakuha sila ng awards. Totoong magagaling. Maganda ang pelikula para sa pasko. One Great Movie to watch out for,” says matriarch Mother Lily Monteverde.

The movie helps us understand ourselves through the characters: are you the type to cling to someone you love no matter what or are you willing to let it go for someone you love?

The film also stars Eric Quizon portraying Dante Paez, Zyra’s loving father, who never got over of his One Great Love, discovers that he deserves a second chance at love. Nina Dolino as Annie Paez, Dante’s second wife, who is a firm believer that One Great Love exists. Miles Ocampo is Jemi Paez, sister of Zyra and who is mature for her age. She is a practical thinker, who challenges Zyra’s view about love. Marlo Mortel is Bryan Gomez, a loving free-spirited guy who falls in love with Jemi.

Directed by Eric Quizon, One Great Love opens in cinemas on December 25.

Dennis Trillo, Solenn Heussaff, Kit Thompson heat up ‘Lakbay2Love’

Handsome award-winning actor Dennis Trillo and alluring actress Solenn Heusaff ignite the silver screen with their third and biggest team up: the film, “Lakbay2Love” from Erasto Films. The two gorgeous performers first starred in a TV commercial and were last seen together in the family drama “Yesterday, Today and Tomorrow,” wherein their characters unleashed the fire of their passionate love.

“L2L” is a love story overflowing with kilig moments as well as hugot lines to convey the need to fall in love with nature. As added attractions, Dennis and Solenn, together with co-star Kit Thompson, immersed themselves in the world of bikers. They biked through scenic biking spots such as La Mesa Dam, Timberland Heights, and Benguet, to bring to life the film’s environmental-themed message.

Dennis plays a forester and biker named Jay-R while Solenn portrays the role of videographer Lianne who is making a feature about climate change. A special friendship develops between them and slowly, Lianne is able to recover from a heartbreak. But just as Lianne is starting to move on, her ex-boyfriend and jay-R’s good friend Macky (played by Kit) returns to turn her world upside-down.

Dennis is a real biker who has been into the sport since he was about eight years old. In fact, the actor had a long wanted to portray a biker and his wish came true when director/producer Ellen Marfil offered him the rile in “L2L.” Dennis reveals, “Mahilig talaga akong mag-bike. Ito ang madalas kong ginagawa kapag may free time ako. Kahit marami akong work at meron kasabay na ginagawang movie, I make time to go biking. Ito ang rest ko.” The Star took the role easily because like Jay-R, he is fond of nature and concerned about the environment. For Direk Ellen, no othe actor could have played Jay-R. She describes him as perfect because aside from his professionalism, “He is 100 percent alpha male. He exudes mystery, a guy you cannot have so you are hooked forever.”

Meanwhile, fans of the sultry Solenn will not be disappointed because her beauty radiates in the entire film. Her irresitible charisma shines through in her every scene. Behind Solenn’s beautiful face and the sexy body lies a real trouper who is willing to endure long travels and challenging weather conditions.

Solenn discloses one unforgettable shoot, “We were supposed to shoot in a forest pero umuulan noong day na ‘yon. So everyone, including the bikers from different groups who were part of the scene, sumilong kami sa tents, nagsiksikan. Super fun! We were just eating ice cream and having fun!” Like Dennis, Solenn also found her role relatable. She explains, “I am always questioning my path so I relate to Lianne in that way. Plus Lianne is ‘mahilig” sa boys…Ako rin! Ha! Ha! Ha!”

Direk Ellen explains Solenn’s natural but undeniable appeal this way, “Solenn is softly in control and can put on the sexiest act even. But if you meet her, hmmm, she is almost child-like, an Audrey Hepburn—she of classic innocence!” Beyond the sophisticated goddess image, Direk says that what the public will see is a vulnerable Solenn As Katti Sta. Ana, founder of the bikers’group Firefly Brigade said after a preview “Totong-totoo siya.”

Completing the “L2L” love triangle is Pinoy Big Brother discovery Kit Thompson whose manliness can unnerve even the most confident woman. But, the staff members swear, when Kit clasped hands with Solenn for a scene, the guy seemed so nervous and smitten!

“L2L” is the third released movie of award-winning writer, producer and director Ellen. Her debut “Pusang Gala (Stray Cats)” won for her a Docker’s First Feature Award at the San Francisco Frameline Film Festival. Her second, “Boses (Voices)” has toured many international film fests, won several awards and continues to be screened here and abroad since its release in 2008.

Lakbay2Love cast with Ellen

In the name of love for romance and love for the environment, join Dennis, Solenn and Kit in their “Lakbay2Love”. Check out and listen to Dennis and Solenn’s duet of the song “Overdrive” by Eraserheads, where this time, the word “drive” has been changed to “bike”, just as the biking communities are growing fast in various places in the country. Listen to the OST of almost a dozen superkilig songs, including Kai Honasan’s “Liwanag” and the newly-launched “Kilig” by Solenn, written and composed by Edward Fernandez of Gig Manila.

Opening in cinemas on February 3, 2016, Lakbay2Love is supported by La Mesa Ecopark, Timberland Heights, 7-Eleven, Firefly Brigade and the Cordillera Conservation Trust. For more information, log on to facebook.com/Lakbay2Love, http://www.lakbay2love.com.ph.
