Actor-politician Jomari Yllana has led Motorsport Carnivale 2023, which is posed as the biggest sporting event in the country in years.

During a press conference held at the luxury hotel, Yllana shared the inspiration that got the ball rolling for such momentous event. It all happened during a coffee meeting with Rikky Dy-Liacco, the present Head of Motorsports of Automobile Association Philippines (AAP).

“I said, ‘You know what? It’s time to give back to the sport that has been good to us. This is the sport where our careers thrived.”

The five-day sporting event that started on Wednesday, August 2, is presented by Okada Manila. This revival of motorcar racing in the Philippines kicked off with a Philippine Rallycross Series.

“It will be an exciting weekend, rain or shine,” said Okada director for property, marketing and branding Victor Galzote. “Part of the thrust of Okada Manila is we do collaborations. We did a lot of beauty pageants in the past – Miss World Philippines, Miss Earth and Miss Universe Philippines.

“We try to expand the collaborations because we have to target and touch different market segments in the industry. One other potential market segment that caters to our business interest is actually the sporting industry that is aligned with our strategy.”

On Sunday, August 6, an event highlight called “CART” will gather collectors of rare racing cars and motorsports gadgets for a Car Meet in memory of the founding father of Cavite Auto Racing Team, Eduardo “Mang Ed” del Rosario.

There will also be an Autocross Race, which will have at least 150 cars, complete with matching champagne popping. There will also be drifting exhibitions for the entire day, which will culminate with awarding ceremonies at Okada Manila.

Special awards will be given to celebrity racers Matteo Guidicelli, Michele Bumgarner, and Richard Gomez.
