SKYGARDEN releases sophomore single ‘HISTORIA’ as emotional JaPinoy rock anthem

Japanese pop-rock trio SKYGARDEN, returns with their second single, “HISTORIA,” released under Alt G Records. The talented team-up of Ryoichi “Ryo” Rivera Nagatsuka, Hiro Ozaki, and Iwaki “Iwa” Maegawa are proud to present their newest song, which is now available across various digital music platforms.

Building on the success of their debut single “KOKOA,” the JaPinoy rock track, “HISTORIA,” delves into themes of love, loss, and resilience, resonating with audiences through its poignant storytelling.

This deeply personal song for the band, inspired by Iwa’s own past relationship, narrates the heart-wrenching tale of two college sweethearts compelled to part ways due to the challenges imposed by the pandemic. Despite the profound love they share, Iwa selflessly allows his girlfriend to pursue her dream of working abroad, making a sacrificial choice for her future at the expense of his own happiness.

Here are some photos from their virtual media conference to promote “HISTORIA”:

Hiro is the one who created the music using the guitars. He patterned their style to Japanese anime style they call J-rock. Helping them, he also directs them in terms of musicality.

On another hand, Ryo is the vocalist of the group. As he is half-Japanese and half-Filipino, he finds it hard to mix Japanese music with Tagalog lyrics but tries to find the common ground of the two.

Adding spice to the trio is Iwa, who is the drummer of the group. Reflecting on the inspiration behind the song, Iwa shares:

“It took me two years to move on from that relationship, and I will always love her. In those two years, I moved here to the Philippines, and we started SKYGARDEN. It was a really big decision, but I’m okay now. Sometimes, I think about what would happen if I chose a different path.”

Ryo adds, “Even though Iwa and his girlfriend love each other, there’s this situation that made them break up. Iwa lost his job during the pandemic, and he doesn’t want to hold her back. So, he makes the difficult decision to let her go, even though it hurts him deeply.”

Providing insight into the recording process, Hiro shares the group’s experience at GMA Music’s studio, expressing appreciation for the top-notch equipment and the guidance of Sir Kedy Sanchez, GMA Music’s Artist and Repertoire Manager and in-house producer.

More than a tribute to Iwa’s past love, “HISTORIA” delivers a universal message of hope and resilience, urging listeners to embrace their own “historias” — the memories that shape their identities, even if some are bittersweet.

The accompanying music video, directed by Njel de Mesa, is set for release on January 26, promising to visually enhance the song’s emotional depth.
