Renowned Filipino actress Liza Soberano is set to captivate audiences in her Hollywood debut with the upcoming horror-comedy film “Lisa Frankenstein,” a collaboration between Focus Features and Universal Pictures International.
Crafted by the imaginative minds of Academy Award®-winning screenwriter Diablo Cody and debut director Zelda Williams, “Lisa Frankenstein” takes a wickedly clever spin on Mary Shelley’s 1818 classic, transporting viewers to 1989 suburbia. The story revolves around high school senior Lisa Swallows, portrayed by Kathryn Newton of “Big Little Lies” and “Ant-Man And The Wasp: Quantumania” fame, who discovers an unconventional hobby at the abandoned Bachelor’s Grove cemetery. This peculiar pastime sets the stage for a life-altering journey filled with dark humor and unexpected twists.

Teaming up for the first time, Newton is joined by Cole Sprouse, known for his roles in “The Suite Life Of Zack & Cody” and CW’s “Riverdale,” as they bring the captivating narrative to life. Under Cody’s skillful pen, the film follows Lisa Swallows accidentally reanimating a dashing Victorian-era corpse, played by Sprouse, during a thunderstorm, leading to a darkly humorous quest for love, happiness, and, quite literally, missing body parts.
In this genre-blending tale set against the vibrant backdrop of the 1980s, Liza Soberano takes on the role of Taffy, Lisa’s stepsister. Excited and grateful for the opportunity, Soberano shares her enthusiasm for the unique project: “It’s set in the 80s, so the whole look—the hair, makeup—is totally 80s, which is new for me. It’s the kind of movie I’ve always wanted to do. It has horror, comedy, and romance in one.”
Expressing her willingness to take risks for her career growth, Soberano remarks, “Sure, it’s a huge risk for my career, but that’s what’s exciting about it. I know I’ve learned a lot no matter how it turns out. That’s what counts.”

Fans of Soberano can anticipate a transformative performance as the actress steps into uncharted territory. With a stellar cast, Cody’s inventive screenplay, and Williams’ unique vision, “Lisa Frankenstein” promises a refreshing and contemporary take on the timeless Frankenstein narrative.
The film boasts a talented ensemble, including Joe Chrest (“Stranger Things”), Henry Eikenberry (“The Crowded Room”), and Carla Gugino (“San Andreas”).
Prepare for an extraordinary blend of romance, horror, and comedy as “Lisa Frankenstein” hits theaters nationwide on February 7, just in time for Valentine’s Day.
