‘Argylle’ review: Twistingly good blend of fun spy film

Reclusive author Elly Conway (Bryce Dallas Howard) writes best-selling espionage novels about a secret agent named Argylle, on a mission to unravel a global spy syndicate. However, when the plots of her fictional books begin to mirror the covert actions of a real-life spy organization—centering on secret agent Argylle and his mission—quiet evenings at home become a thing of the past.

Accompanied by Aidan (Oscar® winner Sam Rockwell), a cat-allergic spy, Elly (carrying Alfie in her backpack) races across the world to stay one step ahead of the killers as the line between Elly’s fictional world and her real one begins to blur.

The film starts slowly, but along the way, a certain twist flips the switch, keeping you on the edge of your seat. The unexpected twists and turns are where the most interesting part begins. The onslaught of twists is non-stop, and it becomes so twisty at times that it could confuse some viewers. It is twistingly fun and entertaining; this new spy action comedy film is an amazing roller coaster ride! It’s a perfect blend of humor, pulse-pounding excitement, romance, and mystery.

Director-producer Matthew Vaughn, once again demonstrating his excellence, surpasses his recent works by assembling an incredible, nearly flawless cast. The lineup includes Henry Cavill, Bryce Dallas Howard, Sam Rockwell, Bryan Cranston, Catherine O’Hara, Dua Lipa, Ariana DeBose, John Cena, and Samuel L. Jackson. Henry Cavill excels at portraying a spy, while Sam Rockwell and Bryce Dallas Howard make a perfect pair.

Truly, this is a must-see spy film! A real contender for the fun-filled, entertaining large ensemble cast of the Fast and Furious franchises. It achieves a good blend of spy and class, presenting an entertaining action comedy filled with perfectly executed stunts and clever twists.

The film is a gripping, well-developed, and wonderfully executed spectacle best seen on the big screen. And be sure to stay a bit for that mid-credit scene. It was a BLAST, though it might not reach the likeness of the first Kingsman film, Argylle is still worth checking out if you like to have fun.
