After close to 15 years, SinoSikat?, fronted by the dynamic Kat Agarrado, is set to make a powerful comeback with their latest single, “Heart Calling.” Released through the collaboration of Warner Music Philippines and Pinoy Soul Records, this marks a significant milestone for the group, known for their breakthrough in 2009 with the acclaimed “2nd Album.”
During a recent media conference coinciding with her single launch, Kat was asked about the fate of the original band and her thoughts on going solo.
She explained, “Hindi lahat kayang mag-commit nang matagal… Pero ever since—sa first album, second album, and then sa live, iba-iba talaga yung kasama ko…
(“Not everyone can commit for a long time… But ever since—the first album, second album, and then in live performances, the people I work with really vary…)

“But I formed SinoSikat?, I write all the songs… I also produce, but I just ask for help from some friends to co-produce…
“So, basically, the idea, the songs, the concept, very hands-on ako. Parang naisip ko, ‘Magsosolo ba ‘ko?’ Parang mas gusto ko yung SinoSikat? kasi it’s a band. Parang mas gusto ko na band ako kaysa solo. Mas masaya ako [in] a band. I like the camaraderie, I like the friendship that’s formed of being a band.“
(“So, basically, the idea, the songs, the concept, I’m very hands-on. I thought, ‘Should I go solo?’ I prefer being with SinoSikat? because it’s a band. I like being in a band more than going solo. I am happier in a band. I enjoy the camaraderie, the friendship that’s formed by being in a band.”)

From past success to new beginnings
Kat Agarrado’s musical journey, starting at the age of 16, encompasses her involvement in various local bands before finding enduring success with “SinosiKat.” Despite a temporary departure from the limelight, Kat continued to make waves with solo releases like “Sa Iyong Mga Mata” and “Beautiful Kind” under Warner Music Philippines since 2022. As the band resurfaces, there’s a commitment to continue the two-decade musical legacy carved by SinosiKat since its formation in 2004.
“Sa ngayon, ito yung pagbabalik, kasi no’ng pandemic na-stop talaga lahat,” she continued to relate to the press. “Some of my bandmates moved to different countries, some of the bandmates have a family… Ako din, I had a kid. Nag-iba-iba yung priority… I thought, might as well continue the legacy of SinoSikat? since maraming sumusuporta at maraming naghihintay…
(“For now, this is the comeback because during the pandemic, everything really came to a halt. Some of my bandmates moved to different countries, some started their families… I, too, had a kid. Priorities shifted… I thought, might as well continue the legacy of SinoSikat? since there are many supporters and many waiting… I spoke with my label, which is Warner Music Philippines, and they thought it’s a good idea.)

Reflecting on the pandemic’s impact, Kat shared in an earlier interview that this long pandemic made her ready to retire and leave the music scene.
She noted, “My heart was still calling like I still had something to do.”
This period of introspection served as a catalyst for renewed purpose, pushing Kat towards embracing new opportunities.
