Dr. Carl Balita, Direk Cathy Garcia-Sampana join forces for ‘Gimme a Break: Teachers Edition’

Witness the harmonious collaboration between Dr. Carl E. Balita and Cathy Garcia-Sampana as they introduce “Gimme A Break: Teachers Edition.” This dynamic partnership is set to spotlight the exceptional singing talents of educators in a thrilling talent search competition.

Check out these highlights from the media conference of “Give Me a Break: Teachers Edition,” featuring Dr. Balita and Director Cathy, along with their esteemed judges and special guests. Notably, Senator Sherwin Gatchalian graced the event for its grand launch.

In this unique singing competition tailored for teachers, contestants intriguingly conceal their identities with masks, adding an element of mystery to the presentation.

Dr. Balita humorously remarked, “Nakamaskara sila kasi gusto naming lagyan ng mystery yung ‘the face behind the voice.’ Alam n’yo naman, pagdating sa mga creatives na ganyan e chumariwap lang kami.”

(They wear masks because we want to add a touch of mystery to ‘the face behind the voice.’ You know how it goes in the creative realm; we like to sprinkle a bit of charm.)

Director Cathy chimed in, emphasizing, “Aside from mystery, ayokong mag-get in the way yung hitsura ng tao sa pag-judge ng galing at talento nila. So regardless of how they look like, ang importante, singers naman po yung jina-judge: yung performer. So saka na yung mukha. Alam naman natin ang mukha e ang daling ayusin. Pero pag ito [boses] at yung talento [ang wala], wala na akong magagawa!”

(Beyond the allure of mystery, I want to ensure that the appearance of the individuals does not overshadow the judgment of their talent and skill. Regardless of their physical appearance, what matters is that we’re evaluating singers—the performers. The face can wait. We all know how to fix a face, but when it comes to this [voice] and their talent, if those are lacking, there’s nothing I can do!)

(What he’s doing is crucial because we need skilled educators in our education system. He is part of what we call the ecosystem of education, as without teachers, we have no education system. He provides a valuable opportunity for our teachers to self-assess, review, and most importantly, pass the licensure exam…)
