Embrace marks 7th year with ‘A Different Cinema: Celebrating Persons with Disability through Films’

The Embrace Organization for Differently Abled Inc. is thrilled to announce its 7th Anniversary Celebration titled ‘A Different Cinema: Celebrating Persons with Disability Through Films,’ taking place from March 18-20 at the EVM Convention Center. This event aims to promote awareness, appreciation, and celebration of individuals with disabilities through the medium of film and various other activities.

A three-day celebration

A special ribbon cutting ceremony, hosted by Starkada talents Nikki Gilbert and Patrick Roxas, kicked off the event. It was graciously attended by Embrace Chairperson True Santos-Matias and NET25 President Caesar Vallejos; together with NET25 artists Ali Sotto, Tonipet Gaba, Rey Langit, Love Anover.

According to Sotto, “It’s actually the 7th anniversary of Embrace Cafe. It started as a cafe, where employees are Persons with Disability…

“Nagsa-sign language yung server ninyo, at yung mga nagtatrabaho sa kusina. Yung natatanging advocacy [is] providing employment for PWDs. That by itself is already something na hahangaan po natin.

(“Your server and kitchen staff are using sign language. Their unique advocacy is providing employment for PWDs. That, by itself, is something we should admire.)

“What started as Embrace Cafe has now expanded. So yun po yung launch nito dito po sa EVM Convention Center.”

Lots of enjoyable activities awaits attendees in this three-day extravaganza, promising inspiration and empowerment throughout.

Film screenings and job fair

The centerpiece of each day will be the screenings of PWD-themed films, including beloved titles such as ‘Coda,’ ‘Finding Nemo,’ ‘I am Sam,’ ‘Isa Pa with Feelings,’ and ‘Hanggang sa Huling Hininga,’ spread across the anniversary celebration.

In addition to the film screenings, attendees can delve into a Job Fair offering employment opportunities for persons with disabilities and a Bazaar supporting small and medium enterprises owned by PWDs. These platforms offer invaluable chances for individuals with disabilities to showcase their talents and make meaningful contributions to society.

Support services, workshops, fun booths and games

Attendees can also benefit from the assistance provided by PDAO Services Quezon City, offering satellite services for PWD Application IDs and Renewals, as well as workshops and seminars focusing on Disability Sensitivity and the Rights and Privileges of PWDs. These sessions aim to enhance understanding and support for the PWD community.

Experience the joy of our Fun Booth and Games while engaging with NGOs advocating for disabilities. These interactive elements not only provide entertainment but also raise awareness and appreciation for individuals with disabilities within our communities.

Marvel at the Art Exhibit featuring works by PWDs through the NEU – Special Education Program and participate in Sign Language Awareness sessions by CSD- Christian Society for the Deaf. These initiatives showcase the creativity and talents of individuals with disabilities while promoting inclusivity and accessibility.

Fostering integration and process

Above all, this event underscores the crucial assistance provided by the Iglesia Ni Cristo through Embrace in supporting individuals with disabilities. By granting them opportunities in society, celebrating their identity, and fostering their integration into progress, we aim to create a more inclusive and supportive environment for all.
