With just a month remaining until the highly anticipated debut of “Buruguduystunstugudunstuy: Ang Parokya ni Edgar Musical” (Ang PNE Musical), excitement is at its peak as Newport World Resorts gears up to present the latest original Filipino production.
Featuring the iconic songs of Parokya ni Edgar, the cast and creative team are leaving no stone unturned in their preparations to deliver a spectacular show.
Exclusive preview unveiled
In a recent press conference held at the Newport Performing Arts Theater (NPAT) Vestibule on Friday, March 15, where CinemaBravo was invited, attendees were treated to an exclusive sneak peek into the vibrant world of the musical.
Members of the cast showcased their talents by performing a medley of Parokya ni Edgar’s hit songs, offering a glimpse of what audiences can expect from the full production.
Chito Miranda’s surprise
Among the distinguished guests was Parokya ni Edgar frontman, Chito Miranda, who witnessed the performance firsthand. Reflecting on the rendition of their songs, Miranda expressed amazement at how the professional treatment elevated their music to new heights, giving him goosebumps in the process.
The story of the musical hints at a whirlwind of unpredictable twists and turns around four women who find themselves at the crossroads of their individual challenges. As fate intertwines their paths, they embark on an extraordinary journey of self-discovery, resilience, and unbreakable bonds.
Meet the characters of Ang PNE Musical
The cast also unveiled the names of their characters, all inspired by Parokya ni Edgar’s extensive discography.
Led by Felicity Kyle Napuli, Marynor Madamesila, Tex Ordoñez-De Leon, and Natasha Cabrera, the four women embody the roles of Aiza, Jen, Norma, and Girlie, respectively.
Joining them are Pepe Herrera, Noel Comia, Nicco Manalo, and Jasper Jimenez in supporting roles.
Behind the scenes
Bringing such a grand musical to life requires a formidable creative team, spearheaded by Newport World Resorts’ production arm, Full House Theater Company (FHTC). Led by Director Dexter M. Santos and Co-Artistic Directors Menchu Lauchengco-Yulo and Michael Williams, the team is no stranger to delivering unforgettable theatrical experiences.
Director Santos promises a theatrical journey filled with laughter, darkness, and romance, ensuring audiences experience a wide spectrum of emotions throughout the show’s runtime in NPAT’s 1,700 seating capacity.
All-star creative ensemble
With acclaimed writer Rody Vera as playwright and musical virtuoso Ejay Yatco as musical director and arranger, the production boasts a stellar lineup of creative minds including choreographer Stephen Viñas, scenic designer Lawyn Cruz, sound engineer Rards Corpus, sound designer Arvy Dimaculangan, conductor Mickey Jacinto, MPO Artistic Director Rodel Colmenar, costume designer Raven Ong, video designers GA Fallarme and Joyce Garcia, and Hair and Make Up Designer Johann de la Fuente.
