‘A Journey’ review: Heartfelt ode to friendship

“Refusing treatment for her cancer, a woman goes on a journey across Tasmania to check off items on her bucket list with her husband and best friend.”

A Journey (2024)

‘A Journey’ captivates its viewers with the heartfelt theme of friendship. While most Filipino barkada films feature a group of around five people, this film successfully focuses on just three characters. Starring Paolo Contis, Kaye Abad, and Patrick Garcia, the film offers a relatable storyline that evokes laughter, tears, and hope for the future.

The setting is beautiful, with Tasmania in Australia as the backdrop, adding an amazing element to the story. Its calm and peaceful environment make it easy for viewers to connect with the characters and the setting.

For all its worth, ‘A Journey’ is a film about friendship and hope. The cast is exceptional. Kaye Abad shines in her role as Shane, checking off some items from her bucket list while delivering a captivating performance that resonates with viewers. Her portrayal proves she hasn’t lost her touch, even after a 5-year break from acting. Patrick Garcia’s charm enhances every scene he’s in, making him perfect for the role. Paolo Contis adds heartwarming humor to his character, eliciting laughter with his jokes and lines. The cast’s chemistry is evident, possibly due to their reunion after ‘Tabing Ilog.’

Director RC Delos Reyes successfully crafted an engaging barkada film. Rather than presenting a love triangle story, the film focuses on the emotions of each character and how they navigate the ups and downs of life. It’s great to see this talented cast reunited.

This new feature from Mavx Productions is best enjoyed with your friends, family, and loved ones. Look out for exciting parts of the film, such as exploring Tasmania, nostalgic fun adventures, unexpected cameos, and the deep emotional bond of friendship.
