‘Mula sa Buwan’ announces full cast for 2024 restaging

MULA SA BUWAN, the award-winning original Filipino musical centered on love and defiance, is set to transport audiences back to the moon once more!

Barefoot Theatre Collaborative initially presented Mula sa Buwan as its debut production in 2022, emerging fresh from the COVID-19 pandemic that had caused theaters across the Philippines to shut down indefinitely. Now, two years later, amidst the country’s busiest theater season, the musical returns more courageous than ever.

The three leads—MYKE SALOMON, GAB PANGILINAN, and MC DELA CRUZ—will be reprising their roles as CYRANO, ROXANE, and CHRISTIAN, respectively.

Several familiar faces from the 2022 run will also be making a comeback. Phi Palmos and Jillian Ita-as will return as Rosanna and Gabriel, along with beloved cadets Rapah Manalo as Rosario, Khalil Tambio as Limon, Jep Go as Gimo, and Ericka Peralejo as Carissa.

Returning ensemble members include Chesko Rodriguez as Filemon, Mikaela Regis as Dalisay, Liway Perez as Maila, Ace Polias as Miguel, Keith Sumbi as Felizidad, and Lance Reblando as Serafina.

This 2024 run will introduce new stars to its troupe of dreamers. Audiences will see Jerom Canlas as Tato, Omar Uddin as Maestro, and Brian Sy as Maximo.

Additionally, joining the cast as ensemble members are Ade Valenzona, Daniel Wesley, Jannah Baniasia, Cheska Quimno, Dippy Arceo, Iya Villanueva, and Jules Dela Paz.

The upcoming staging will also feature Paw Castillo as the standby for Cyrano, Teetin Villanueva as the standby for Roxane and the female swing, and Rofe Villarino as the male swing.

Directing Mula sa Buwan is Mikko Angeles, with Myke Salomon as Musical Director, Ohm David as Set Designer, Meliton Roxas Jr. as Lighting Designer, JM Cabling as Choreographer, and Bonsai Cielo as Costume Designer.

SYNOPSIS

Mula sa Buwan is an original Filipino musical based on Edmond Rostand’s timeless classic Cyrano de Bergerac. However, this is not your usual Cyrano. Although it retains the plot of unrequited love, question of beauty and the relentless battle against compromise, the beloved story has been reimagined to tell a more familiar story: OURS.

Now set in 1940s Manila, the musical now features wide-eyed dreamers, fools, and misfits where harana, kundiman, together with passion and genuine friendships abound! Through wit, stories, and music, they dream and fight for their place in an ever-changing city. However, when war strikes, love, ideals, and truth are all tested–the young now forced to suddenly “grow up”.

The musical moves to a time after the war, to a field of rubble, of forgotten memories, of heroes lost in a country struggling to survive. At the center of it all is the unrequited and heartbreaking love story between the poet Cyrano, his beloved Roxane, and the kind-hearted Christian.

Created by Pat Valera and William Elvin Manzano in 2010, Mula sa Buwan has been staged numerous times with each version (GSIS Theater; 2011, Irwin Theater; 2016-2017, Hyundai Hall in Arete; 2018, and Samsung Performing Arts Theater; 2022) becoming ever more spectacular—without losing the raging love of the play.
