Who’s your favorite character from ‘House of the Dragon’?

With five episodes already streaming on HBO GO, “House of the Dragon” Season 2 continues to deliver the franchise’s signature surprises.

Based on George R.R. Martin’s “Fire & Blood,” this hit series unfolds 200 years before the events of “Game of Thrones.” This HBO Original drama series tells the story of House Targaryen, focusing on the bloody civil war between the Green and Black Councils, who are fighting for King Aegon and Queen Rhaenyra, respectively.

Spoiler alert: In Season 1 of “House of the Dragon,” available in the Philippines through HBO GO powered by PLDT Home, Viserys I Targaryen dies, leading to a division within his house. The Greens, led by his son King Aegon II Targaryen, and the Blacks, led by his daughter Queen Rhaenyra Targaryen, form new allegiances. The Season 1 finale saw Rhaenyra’s second son, Prince Lucerys Velaryon, killed by Prince Aemond Targaryen and his dragon.

Some characters are proving to be more memorable than others. Here are our favorite characters so far:

Prince Daemon Targaryen (Matt Smith)

Daemon had an incredible character arc in Season 1. Initially perceived as a rogue prince with ambitions for his brother Viserys I’s throne (Paddy Considine), Daemon transformed into a loving brother and husband. In Season 1, Episode 8, he helps his ailing brother sit on the Iron Throne, gently placing the crown on his head. He also beheads Vaemond Velaryon for insulting Rhaenyra. In Season 2, Daemon is eager to fight for their birthright, unwilling to wait for Rhaenyra to finish grieving.

Queen Rhaenyra Targaryen (Emma D’Arcy)

When will heartache end for Rhaenyra? Possibly never. In Season 2, Episode 1, Rhaenyra grieves over Lucerys’ death. While she desires revenge, she still shows restraint and seeks a solution without war. We admire Rhaenyra for her ability to maintain composure even through her anger.

Prince Aemond Targaryen (Ewan Mitchell)

Aemond displayed his hatred for Rhaenyra’s children early in Season 1. He lost an eye as a child while fighting with his nephew Lucerys Velaryon but gained Vhagar, one of the most powerful dragons. In Season 2, Episode 2, we see more of Aemond, and despite his history, we can’t help but feel for his character.

Ser Criston Cole (Fabien Frankel)

As a member of the Kingsguard, Ser Criston often breaks his oaths and allegiances, first with Rhaenyra in Season 1 and now with Queen Alicent. By the end of Episode 2 of the new season, he replaces Aegon’s grandfather, Otto Hightower, as the King’s Hand. Much like Rhaenyra, we were charmed by him initially and are eager to see what comes his way this season.

Queen Alicent Hightower (Olivia Cooke)

Alicent is a highly complex character who will do anything to keep her son on the Iron Throne. While we may not always agree with her, we respect her development, determination, and role as a key player in “House of the Dragon.”

Princess Rhaenys Velaryon (Eve Best)

The Queen Who Never Was, Rhaenys Targaryen, married Corlys Velaryon, Master of Driftmark and head of House Velaryon. Rhaenys is unpredictable, never revealing her true intentions until she wants to. She demonstrated her power at the end of Season 1 by attacking King’s Landing on her dragon, Meleys. In Season 2, she stands up to Daemon, urging him to let Rhaenyra grieve. Her strength was inspiring, but sadly, we see Rhaenys fall to her death in Season 2.

Cregan Stark (Tom Taylor)

Lord Cregan Stark is a favorite simply because he is a Stark. We love Starks, regardless of their screen time. Cregan pledges his allegiance to the Blacks, telling Jacaerys, “the Starks do not forget their oath, my prince.” We can’t wait to see more of Cregan!
