Marikina Mayor Marcy Teodoro’s name stays on ballot amid DQ case

Marikina Mayor Marcy Teodoro will still appear on the ballot as a candidate for congressman in the First District of Marikina City, despite an ongoing disqualification case.

According to Commission on Elections (Comelec) Chairperson George Garcia, Teodoro’s name remains on the ballot because the Comelec en banc has not yet resolved his motion for reconsideration. This motion challenges the earlier decision by the Comelec 1st Division to disqualify him from the congressional race.

Garcia clarified that only a final decision from the Comelec en banc, accompanied by a certificate of finality, can officially remove a candidate’s name from the ballot.

Meanwhile, Comelec commenced ballot printing on Monday in preparation for the upcoming May elections.

Garcia previously stated that the Comelec en banc could reverse the division’s decision if Teodoro presented new arguments or evidence in his motion for reconsideration.

“Marami rin namang pagkakataon na pagkatapos makapagprisinta ng mga argumento sa motion for reconsideration ay puwedeng magkaroon ng reversal ang division,” Garcia pointed out.

Residents of Marikina City have expressed their full support for Teodoro amidst the issue he is facing.

“Tuloy ang laban. Huwag nating hayaang ang mga dayo ang mamuno sa ating lungsod na walang ginawa kundi siraan at pabagsakin si Mayor Marcy,” a resident said on social media.
