Moviegoers looking for a family-friendly cinematic experience this week can look forward to four films that have been granted age-appropriate ratings by the Movie and Television Review and Classification Board (MTRCB). Among these is ‘Firefighters’, which received a Parental Guidance (PG) rating, making it suitable for general audiences with parental guidance.
“Firefighters,” a Korean drama, is based on the true story of 2001 Hongje-dong fire disaster. It stars Joo Won (주원), Kwak Do-won (곽도원), Yoo Jae-Myung (유재명), Lee Yoo-young (이유영), Kim Min-jae (김민재), Oh Dae-hwan (오대환), Lee Jun-hyuk (이준혁), Jang Young-nam (장영남). It is from the director of the record-breaking South Korean film ‘Friend’, Kwak Kyung-taek.
Another film that opened this week is “Woodwalkers,” which is about young shape-shifters enrolled in an exclusive secret school. It was also rated PG (Parental Guidance), allowing children under 13 to watch in the company of their parents or guardians.
The Thai animated “Out of the Nest,” about a goat and seven adorable talented chicks, and the South Korean concert movie “IU Concert: The Winning,” starring the South Korean pop star “IU,” were rated G (General Audience) suitable for all ages.
For adults seeking for thrill and action, the much-awaited “Peter Pan’s Neverland Nightmare,” a British independent horror movie starring Martin Portlock, earned ratings of R-16 (suitable for 16 years old and above) and R-18 (mature audiences).
The same R-16 and R-18 ratings were also accorded “The Baby in the Basket,” due to complex themes, horror, mature content and language not suitable for young viewers.
MTRCB Chairperson and CEO Lala Sotto-Antonio reminds parents and guardians of the importance of selecting age-appropriate content for their children.
“Movies play a crucial role in shaping young minds. Through responsible viewing, we can ensure that children not only enjoy but also learn valuable lessons from the films they watch,” Sotto-Antonio said.
