Mayoral candidate Sam “SV” Verzosa has responded to former Manila Mayor Isko Moreno’s recent statements, which questioned his role in pandemic relief efforts. In a video posted on social media, Verzosa countered Moreno’s claims by presenting footage and statements to back up his contributions.
Along with the video, Verzosa wrote:
“Galit ako sa SINUNGALING, Abusado at MAGNANAKAW, kaya hindi ako papayag na ginaganito tayo. Tapusin natin ang Kultura ng Pananakot at Korapsyon! Di namin kayo uurungan! Lalaban kami hanggang dulo! Babaliktarin pa nila tayo, pero alam ng mga kababayan natin ang totoo. Paparating na ang PAGBABAGO sa Maynila 💪🏽”
(I hate LIARS, Abusers, and THIEVES, so I will not allow this to happen to us. Let’s put an end to the culture of intimidation and corruption! We will not back down! We will fight until the end! They may try to twist the truth, but the people know what is real. CHANGE is coming to Manila 💪🏽)
A bold message also appeared in the video: “Sige lang, siraan n’yo kami, kumpleto kami ng resibo.”
(Go ahead, tarnish our name—we have complete receipts.)
Sam sets the record straight
The video featured a clip of Moreno addressing an audience, where he took a swipe at Verzosa:
“Nakisali naman yung isa, si pabida, si ‘Superman’, bumabaha ng bigas at de-lata. Simple lang ang tanong naming mga taga-Maynila, nasaan nung pandemya?”
(Another one decided to join in, the show-off, ‘Superman’, distributing rice and canned goods. The simple question from us Manileños is—where was he during the pandemic?)
Verzosa responded by presenting clips of Moreno himself thanking Frontrow, the multilevel marketing company Verzosa co-founded, for its pandemic relief efforts. One of the clips featured Moreno saying:
“Thank you sa inyo, Frontrow.”
(Thank you to Frontrow.)
The video then showed Verzosa appearing on Wowowin, hosted by Willie Revillame, where he detailed their donations:
“Nakalagpas-20,000 na po tayo na sako ng bigas na napamigay. Nakapagbigay na po tayo sa City of Manila, sa Quezon City, sa Davao, sa City of Pasig, sa iba’t iba pang mga probinsya.”
(We have given away more than 20,000 sacks of rice. We have distributed aid in the City of Manila, Quezon City, Davao, Pasig, and various provinces.)
Another scene showed Verzosa at an event with Moreno himself:
“Ngayon, nandito po tayo para i-inaugurate together with Mayor Isko Moreno.”
(Today, we are here to inaugurate this together with Mayor Isko Moreno.)
Relief efforts continue
The video continued with additional clips showing Moreno expressing gratitude to Frontrow:
“Sa mga taga-Frontrow, maraming-maraming salamat sa inyo.”
(“To the people of Frontrow, thank you very much.”)
Verzosa also included a testimonial from a Manila resident who vouched for his efforts:
“Hindi nakakalimot. Community pantry, nandiyan siya, nagbababa ng ayuda. Kahit hindi mo sabihin. Tinulungan niya ako noong nagka-COVID kami.”
(He never forgets. The community pantry—he was there, distributing aid. Even without being asked. He helped me when my family got COVID.)
In contrast, Moreno claimed in his recent speech:
“Hindi sila matagpuan. Ang sasarap ng mga buhay nila!”
(They were nowhere to be found. They’re living the good life!)
Verzosa countered this by sharing footage of his visit to UP Diliman, his alma mater, where he ranked second in the Civil Engineering board exams. In the video, he said:
“Babalik tayo sa aking alma mater, sa UP Diliman campus. Magbibigay tayo ng kaunting tulong sa mga UP jeepney drivers and kaunting financial aids.”
(We are returning to my alma mater, UP Diliman. We will provide some assistance to UP jeepney drivers and financial aid.)
A response to Isko’s jabs
Moreno also took a jab at Verzosa’s signature gesture of raising his arms up and down:
“Ngayon, ganyan-ganyan ka pa… Parang may giyera.”
(Now, you’re still doing that… As if there’s a war.)
Verzosa dismissed this by showing a clip of himself distributing relief goods:
“Lahat po ng ipapamimigay namin ngayon, galing po sa Frontrow.”
(Everything we are distributing today comes from Frontrow.)
SV’s video wrapped up with Verzosa’s own words:
“Wag na tayong magpatolongges dito! Ilang taon na ho tayong niloloko.”
(Let’s not allow ourselves to be fooled here! We have been deceived for years.)
As a final note, Verzosa displayed a screenshot of an Inquirer.net article with the headline: “Private company FRONTROW goes all in with P100-M donation and added pledge this 2020.”
