Imee Marcos’ snap with alleged kidnap mastermind David Tan Liao goes viral online

Senator Imee Marcos found herself at the center of online buzz after a photo of her with alleged kidnap-for-ransom suspect David Tan Liao resurfaced on social media. The image reemerged shortly after Liao surrendered to authorities in connection with the kidnapping and murder of Filipino-Chinese businessman Anson Que and his driver, Armanie Pabillo.

The viral photo, posted by the X (formerly Twitter) account Thirty One Million, captured Marcos and Liao together at an event, both raising their hands in a “V” sign.

The caption on the post claimed that the Philippine National Police (PNP) had named Liao as the alleged mastermind behind the abduction and killing of Que and Pabillo.

The post said Liao also uses the aliases Xiao Chang Jiang, Yang, Jianmin, and Michael Agad Yung.

He voluntarily surrendered on Saturday, while his two other accomplices, identified as Richardo Austria David and Raymart Catequista, were arrested in Roxas, Palawan, on Friday. They are currently in the custody of the PNP Anti-Kidnapping Group.

The PNP said two more Chinese nationals suspected of involvement in the crime are still being pursued.

Que and Pabillo were last seen on March 29 in Valenzuela City. A ransom demand of $20 million was sent to Que’s family the following day. Despite the ransom being paid, the two victims were killed, and their bodies were discovered in Rodriguez, Rizal, on April 9.
