Ex-Peace Process head Ging Deles backs Maan Teodoro’s mayoral bid in Marikina

Teresita “Ging” Deles, renowned for being the first woman to serve as Presidential Adviser on the Peace Process and the broker of the Comprehensive Agreement on the Bangsamoro (CAB), has thrown her support behind Marikina 1st District Rep. Maan Teodoro’s campaign for mayor, citing the lawmaker’s strong track record and trustworthy vision for the city.

In a Facebook post, Ms. Deles wrote, “Bilang satisfied Marikina resident, duon ako sa may pinatunayang track record, maaasahang sipag, at kapani-paniwalang vision para sa aming siyudad.”

(As a satisfied Marikina resident, I am supporting the one with a proven track record, reliable hard work, and a credible vision for our city.)

In a separate post, she added, “As a resident of Marikina since the early 1980’s, si Maan Teodoro ang iboboto ko bilang susunod na Mayor ng Marikina!”

(As a resident of Marikina since the early 1980s, I will vote for Maan Teodoro as the next Mayor of Marikina!)

Ms. Deles served as the first woman Presidential Adviser on the Peace Process under the Arroyo administration from 2003 to 2005. She was reappointed to the same post by President Benigno Simeon “Noynoy” Aquino III, serving from 2010 to 2016.

During her tenure, the landmark Comprehensive Agreement on the Bangsamoro was signed in 2014, paving the way for the creation of the Bangsamoro Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao (BARMM).

Ms. Deles also shared Rep. Teodoro’s video outlining her plans and programs to boost local businesses and create fresh jobs for Marikenos.

“Magkakaroon tayo ng Commercial District Development sa Sumulong Highway Area na magdadala ng maraming trabaho at kabuhayan para sa mga taga-Marikina,” Rep. Teodoro said.

(We will develop a Commercial District along Sumulong Highway that will bring many jobs and livelihood opportunities for Marikina residents.)

She also plans to establish a Special Economic Zone for factories and manufacturing plants, as well as a Sustainable Livelihood Program (SLP) to support micro and small enterprises.

“Magbibigay tayo ng negosyo package, panimulang puhunan at libreng financial trainings para masigurong lalago ang mga negosyo.  Magkakaroon din ng expanded business permit at tax exemptions para mas maraming maliliit na negosyo ang makinabang,” she said.

(We will provide business packages, startup capital, and free financial training to ensure that businesses grow. There will also be expanded business permits and tax exemptions to benefit more small businesses.)

She aims to revive Marikina’s local tourism through City-Organized Food Crawls and Heritage Tours to attract more visitors.

She is also committed to strengthening the city’s iconic shoe industry by building the Marikina Shoe Trade Center and a Shoe Warehouse and Coworking Space for manufacturers and shoemakers.
