Former Senator Bam Aquino’s senatorial campaign received a crucial boost days before the elections, as two of the country’s largest religious groups—Iglesia Ni Cristo (INC) and the Jesus Is Lord (JIL) Church—expressed their official support for his candidacy.
The influential INC included Aquino in its list of eight endorsed senatorial candidates, as shown in the sample ballots distributed nationwide to members of the church.
Meanwhile, the JIL Church also threw its support behind Aquino, naming him as one of their preferred bets for the Senate.
“Taos-pusong pasasalamat kay Executive Minister Eduardo Manalo at sa buong Iglesia Ni Cristo (INC) sa inyong tiwala at pag-indorso sa aking kandidatura. Patuloy po nating pagtatrabahuhan na makamit ang magandang buhay para sa bawat pamilyang Pilipino,” Aquino said.
(Sincere thanks to Executive Minister Eduardo Manalo and the entire Iglesia Ni Cristo (INC) for your trust and endorsement of my candidacy. We will continue to work together to achieve a better life for every Filipino family.)
Aquino also thanked the JIL for their trust and support, as well as Senator Joel Villanueva for facilitating the meeting with the JIL National Executive Committee.
“Thank you very much to the Jesus is Lord Church for endorsing my candidacy for senator. I am truly grateful for your trust and support,” he said.
The endorsements provide Aquino a significant lift ahead of the elections, as the two religious groups have millions of members across the country.
Aquino placed 11th in the latest Pulse Asia survey conducted from April 20 to 24.
