Jomari Yllana shifts into high gear for road safety at Motorsport Carnivale

Racing meets advocacy on May 31 as Parañaque City Councilor Jomari Yllana takes the lead not just on the track, but on the call for safer roads across the country.

Known for his dual roles as public servant and Team Principal of Yllana Racing, Yllana is placing road safety at the heart of the Okada Motorsport Carnivale Jom’s Cup, a motorsport event happening at Okada Manila.

Yllana recently appeared on Radyo 630 Teleradyo Serbisyo, where he addressed the alarming rise in traffic incidents. He stressed the urgent need for better safeguards, saying, “In the wake of a growing number of accidents on our roads lately, stricter measures must be put in place to safeguard pedestrians and motorists alike.”

More than just a showcase of speed and skill, Yllana emphasized that the May 31 event carries a deeper mission.“Road safety,” he said, “is at the core of [my] motivation for staging the Okada Motorsport Carnivale Jom’s Cup on May 31, 2025, at Okada Manila.”

By fusing the thrill of motorsports with a call for responsible driving, Yllana hopes to create not just excitement, but awareness—proving that advocacy can move just as fast as the cars on the track.

Jom’s Cup is a high-octane 1/8 mile drag racing challenge, featuring vintage cars, muscle cars, and supercars. The action will unfold at the scenic seaside boardwalk of Okada Manila, offering both thrill and nostalgia.

The Okada Motorsport Carnivale 2025 officially launched on May 4 with a dynamic lineup of motorsport events held at the boardwalk and gardens of the expansive hotel-casino complex in Parañaque City.

The opening event—Round 3 of the Super Sprint series—saw 127 drivers race through challenging slalom courses, cheered on by over 700 spectators. As the sun set, the event shifted gears with “Legends of the ’90s,” a grand vintage car meet that gathered 365 classic vehicles, some dating as far back as the 1960s.

More than a thousand car enthusiasts came together to witness the impressive showcase of design, engineering, and power—a celebration of automotive heritage like no other.

On his road safety advocacy, Yllana assured the public of the event’s strict safety protocols: “It is going to be very, very safe. We take care of everyone who will join. We conduct briefings before the races. All the races are designed to be safe.”

Yllana, who has been passionate about motorsports since his teenage years, said organizing the Motorsport Carnivale is his way of giving back to the sport that shaped him.
