Why Geneva Cruz moved her 35th anniversary concert ‘Gen Evolution’

Geneva Cruz’s 35th anniversary concert, Gen Evolution, has been rescheduled to August 1, 2025—but for a reason that speaks volumes about loyalty, gratitude, and the people who’ve stood by her throughout her showbiz journey.

In a recent post, the OPM personality shared: “Due to a scheduling conflict, my management team ALV Talents and I have rescheduled the Gen Evolution concert to August 1st. My manager of 28 years, Arnold Vegafria, who manages the franchise here in the PHI, will be attending the Miss World pageant in India. Since he has played a significant role in my 35 years in the industry, I want him to be present at the concert.”

Originally set for an earlier date, Gen Evolution is now moving a few weeks later—but Cruz emphasized that the show’s heart and message remain the same.

At her recent solo media conference, the singer and fitness advocate opened up about the deeper motivation behind the concert and how it reflects her own evolution through the years.

“I’ve never been athletic or physically strong in my 20s and 30s, and I’m turning 50,” she said. “Kinakalimutan ko na nga lang, kasi sometimes pag binibigyan mo ng edad yung sarili, naiisip mo talaga yung mga negative: ‘Matanda na ‘ko,’ ‘Hindi ko na yan kaya!’ Parang nag-give up ka na, pero lahat yan nasa utak lang natin. Pag kaya ng utak, kaya ng katawan, kadalasan nga.”

(“I’ve never been athletic or physically strong in my 20s and 30s, and I’m turning 50. I try not to dwell on my age because sometimes when you do, you tend to focus on the negatives: ‘I’m old,’ ‘I can’t do that anymore!’ It’s like you’ve already given up. But most of that is just in our minds. If the mind can handle it, often the body can too.”)

“So yun lang yung experience ko talaga,” she continued, “and I’m so fortunate and so grateful na binigyan ako ni God ng ganito kalakas na pangangatawan because I believe that health is wealth. And yun nga lang, sana sa concert, talagang maipakita ko sa sarili ko at sa inyong lahat na age really is just a number.”

(“That’s been my experience, and I feel so fortunate and grateful that God has given me this kind of strength because I truly believe health is wealth. And I really hope that in this concert, I can show both myself and all of you that age really is just a number.”)

“And that with proper growth — mentally, spiritually, and physically — kaya pa rin nating makipagsabayan sa ating mga kabataan,” she added. “I love and admire our youth dahil yan po yung mga kinakanta namin nung kami’y mga bata ng Smokey Mountain, na ang kabataan ay pag-asa ng bayan, and wala pong competition.”

(“And that with proper growth—mentally, spiritually, and physically—we can still keep up with today’s youth. I love and admire our young people because those were the ones we sang about as kids in Smokey Mountain: that the youth are the hope of the nation. And there’s no competition.”)

“But what I’m trying to say here is that if they can do some things na feeling n’yo kaya n’yo rin, I believe kaya n’yo rin,” she said. “So yun ang theme ng concert na ‘to. Yun nga, kaya nating mag-evolve, kahit ano pa’ng edad natin.”

(“What I’m trying to say is, if they can do certain things that you think you can also do, I believe you can do them too. That’s the theme of this concert—we can evolve, no matter what age we are.”)

GEN EVOLUTION is set to take place at the Music Museum in Greenhills at 8:00 PM, under the direction of fellow Smokey Mountain member and longtime friend Jeffrey Hidalgo. The show will feature Cruz’s closest friends and showbiz colleagues, promising a lineup that not only celebrates her musical highlights but also chronicles the soundtrack of her generation—from the peak of radio’s golden era to the height of OPM’s timeless appeal.

Far from just a nostalgic tribute, the concert aims to showcase how Geneva has continued to evolve—not just as a singer and performer but as a woman of strength and influence. Now a proud sergeant with the Philippine Air Force Reserve, Cruz actively participates in medical missions, environmental efforts, and community outreach projects. She’s also known for promoting body positivity and aging gracefully through fitness and self-love.

With the new date locked in, fans can expect a show filled with both energy and emotion—one that celebrates Geneva’s 35 years in the spotlight and her unwavering belief that growth never stops. True to the spirit of her concert title, reinvention has no age limit.
