Melai on posing with Sexbomb OGs for P-pop girl group Mamamo: ‘Bakit ako nasa gitna?’

Kapamilya comedienne and TV host Melai Cantiveros admitted feeling a mix of embarrassment and disbelief when she found herself placed at the center of the promotional poster for the newly launched P-Pop girl group Mamamo, surrounded by no less than the original Sexbomb dancers.

“Grabe ang hiya ko! Sobra talaga. Nag-sorry ako sa kanila. ‘Patawarin n’yo ako ha na nasa gitna ako,’ sabi ko. Kasi hindi basta-basta ang Sexbomb,” she recalled during an intimate interview at Quiring Elementary School in Quezon City with select entertainment media, including CinemaBravo.

(I was really shy, honestly. I even apologized to them, saying, “Please forgive me for being in the middle,” because the Sexbomb girls are iconic.)

She added that she was nervous being grouped with dancers she considers “OGs” in the industry, referring to Rochelle Pangilinan, Jopay Paguia-Zamora, Sunshine Garcia-Castro, and Cheche Tolentino as legends she deeply respects.

But her uneasiness was quickly dispelled by the group’s warm and welcoming attitude.

“Sila talaga pinaka-idol natin sa sayawan. Sino ba ako para ipagitna? Pero sabi nila, ‘Ano ka ba, walang problema!’”

(They really are our dance idols. Who am I to be put in the center? But they said, “What are you talking about? It’s no problem!”)

For Kapuso star Rochelle Pangilinan, the feeling was mutual. Working with Melai—despite coming from rival networks—was nothing short of delightful.

“Napakabait ni Melai. Napaka-generous. Ilang araw lang kaming magkasama sa shoot pero parang matagal na naming kilala ang isa’t isa,” she shared, jokingly asking Melai to treat her to a meal after the event.

(Melai is very kind and generous. We only worked together for a few days but it felt like we’d known each other for a long time.)

Rochelle noted that she had always heard good things about Melai from her close friend and fellow PPL Entertainment artist Jolina Magdangal.

“Naririnig ko siya kay Jolina, na kaibigan ko at kumare. Sabi niya, sobrang bait ni Melai—and it’s true!”

(I always heard about her from Jolina, my friend and godmother. She said Melai is really kind—and it’s true!)

Why connectivity matters for moms (and furmoms)

The members of Mamamo may be entertainers, but at home, they are mothers with digital responsibilities—and they know the importance of staying connected.

“Super importante talaga ang internet sa bahay, lalo na ‘pag hindi mo masaway yung mga anak mo,” Melai said with a laugh. (Internet is super important at home, especially when you can’t get your kids to behave.)

She joked that sometimes, the best solution is to hand them a device and say, “Quiet kayo! Manood muna kayo diyan!” (Be quiet! Just watch something for now!)

Rochelle agreed, explaining that being a mom in the age of social media often means multitasking.

“Kami pa minsan ang nag-e-edit ng content namin. Kailangan mabilis ang upload at download. At ngayon, may online classes din si Shiloh,” she said, referring to her daughter.

(Sometimes, we even edit our own content. We need fast uploads and downloads. My daughter Shiloh also has online classes.)

Sunshine Garcia-Castro, mom to five kids aged 5 months to 21 years old, said having fast internet at home helps her stay on top of her children’s education and keep in touch with family.

“Marami akong anak at kailangan ng mabilis na internet. May online classes at may mga kamag-anak pa kami sa ibang bansa,” she said.

(I have many kids and need fast internet. There are online classes, and we also have family abroad we want to stay in contact with.)

Even Cheche Tolentino, a self-described furmom to four cats, emphasized that affordability and flexibility are key.

“Kapag nagtitipid ka, malaking bagay na may internet na mura at walang lock-in. S2S offers that,” she remarked.

(When you’re budgeting, it’s a big help to have internet that’s affordable and doesn’t require a contract.)

A celebration of fun, fiber, and family connection

These conversations happened during the Surf2Sawa event held last June 28, 2025. The whole-day gathering brought together families, friends, and fun-loving residents for a festival of performances, games, and prizes.

This was the second time Surf2Sawa visited the city, following a similar celebration in April. With over 3 million residents, Quezon City was chosen again as an ideal venue to promote digital connectivity and empower families through accessible technology.

The event featured several crowd-pleasers: Zumba2Sawa, a community dance workout; Dance2Sawa, where 10 teams battled it out for prizes; and Sugod Barangay, which awarded three lucky families with a full year of free internet and other giveaways. Attendees were also treated to performances by Mamamo and Fiberkad ambassador Yeng Constantino, along with free food carts, haircuts, and massages. New subscribers who signed up that day had their fiber internet installed instantly via the Instant Connect promo.

What is Surf2Sawa?

Surf2Sawa, or S2S, is a prepaid fiber internet plan designed with Filipino households in mind. It offers unlimited internet for only ₱4.00 per day per user and allows up to six devices to connect at speeds of up to 50 Mbps. Because it’s prepaid and contract-free, customers can top up as needed—no monthly bill shock, no lock-in periods.

This year, the service introduced Surf2Sawa 999, which includes installation and 30 days of unlimited internet for just ₱999, making it a family-friendly option for first-time fiber users.

According to Mr. Dhing Pascual, Vice President and Business Unit Head of Converge ICT, Surf2Sawa and the Mamamo campaign reflect their company’s mission to serve Filipino homes with passion and purpose. “Ang campaign na ito at ang Mamamo ang diwa ng Surf2Sawa: masigasig, makatao, at laging konektado,” he said.

(This campaign and Mamamo reflect the spirit of Surf2Sawa: passionate, people-centered, and always connected.)

With internet now an essential part of parenting, education, and daily life, Surf2Sawa proves that staying connected doesn’t have to be expensive. And with MamaMo leading the way, the campaign offers not only digital solutions—but also inspiration, empowerment, and plenty of feel-good fun.
