A new streaming platform is entering the scene, and it’s setting its sights firmly on mature content for mature audiences.
CinePOP! gathered select members of the media, including CinemaBravo, for an exclusive look at its newest vertical series ‘Mansanas ni Eba’, starring trending content creator Apple Angeles, whose venture into acting marks a promising new direction in her career.
During the event held at the CinePOP! office on November 18, director Albert Langitan — who also serves as Chairman of Cine Popular Entertainment, Inc. — discussed the project’s vision and why the series takes on themes that are often treated as taboo.
Breaking the taboo
Langitan shared that conversations about sex are frequently dismissed or avoided. “Kailangan ng malayang pagpapahayag, kagaya lang nung issue about sex,”, he said.
(We need freedom of expression, just like with the issue of sex.)
He added that calling sex “bastos” limits people’s ability to talk about it openly. “Tingin ko, yung function kung bakit kumalat yung HIV… ay dahil sa uneducated appreciation ng pakikipag-sex.”
(I think one of the reasons HIV and other STDs spread is because people have an uneducated understanding of sex.)
Consequences of staying silent
Langitan noted that early and honest conversations could help shape healthier perspectives.
“Kung noon pa lang, sinabi na natin na hindi tama yung makikipag-sex ka sa iba’t ibang partner, at mas lalong hindi tama yung makikipag-sex ka na walang condom,”, he added.
(If from the start we explained that having sex with multiple partners isn’t right, and especially that having sex without a condom isn’t right.)
He also questioned how proper guidance can be offered when the topic itself is treated negatively.
“Paano mo ituturo sa kanila kung ano yung tamang proseso kung pinag-uusapan pa lang yung sex, nandidiri ka na?”, he asked.
(How can you teach the right process if just talking about sex already disgusts you?)
About ‘Mansanas ni Eba’
Mansanas ni Eba follows a woman navigating love, desire, and self-worth across different encounters.
“A heartbroken woman explores love, lust, and self-worth through three men who awaken different sides of her, with each encounter bringing her closer to discovering what love truly means.”
