Director-writer-producer Nijel De Mesa opened the media launch of Ghost Project with a sweeping vision—not just for the film, but for the future of storytelling as NDM Studios celebrates its 25th anniversary.
Speaking before members of the press, which included CinemaBravo, on November 25, 2025, he introduced NDM Plus, the studio’s newly launched global streaming platform.
He calls NDM Plus “a global streaming platform that caters to every culture in this borderless landscape of entertainment and digital media.”
The vision
He highlighted what sets the platform apart, explaining, “Contrary to other streaming platforms, we build—we do not buy,” framing NDM Plus as a space built on original, creator-driven stories. “NDM Plus is the home of unique stories and unique storytelling,” he said, emphasizing its mission to give boundary-pushing filmmakers a true home.
De Mesa also pointed out the symbolic timing of recent milestones. After unveiling NDM Plus at the NDM Expo in Funan, Singapore and later in the Bay Area—with Sony Pictures Asia executives and Singaporean artists in attendance—the studio noted the significance of celebrating its 25th year on October 25, followed by the Ghost Project launch exactly one month later. The festivities continue with the December 5 unveiling of the DKU collectible figurine.
He then addressed the shifting landscape of the film industry. “The film industry is not defunct. It will never be dead because there is always need for good stories and good storytelling,” he said. With NDM Plus offering Chinese, Japanese, Taiwanese, BLGL, romcom, thriller, and documentary titles, the platform aims to open doors for storytellers navigating shrinking theatrical windows and intensifying streaming competition.
In his most passionate call to creators, De Mesa declared: “We call all iconoclasts, mavericks, outcasts, weirdos, lone wolves, dreamers, visionaries. You will find a home here. This is the home of unstoppable filmmakers who will stop at nothing.”
Within this vision, Ghost Project emerges as one of NDM Studios’ major offerings for 2026.
The project
From the moment the screen flickers to life, Ghost Project promises a pulse-pounding mix of tension and laughter. Headlined by James Macasero—known to millions as one-half of the comic duo Moymoy Palaboy—the film pushes the performer into bold new territory, mixing heart, humor, and gripping intensity. Guiding the project is De Mesa, known for balancing sharp suspense with warmth, alongside producer Engineer Alfredo Atienza, whose creative “blueprints” help shape every scare and smile.
At the heart of the film is a construction site that takes on a life of its own—alive with whispers, creaks, and spectral echoes drifting through the night. Here, an earnest engineer faces a mischievous ghost obsessed with scrutinizing every bolt, beam, and unspoken truth. Instead of simply haunting, the spirit reflects human fears and frustrations with a playful wink, crafting a horror-comedy that invites audiences to laugh and scream in unison.
The ensemble brings emotional depth and personality to the supernatural tale.
- Regine Angeles offers heartfelt resilience.
- Dennis Padilla grounds the film with everyman warmth.
- Lance Raymundo injects charisma into the eerie atmosphere.
- Toffi Santos and Ynez Veneracion add humor, texture, and humanity.
Surprise appearances further enrich the film, promising delight for longtime fans and curious newcomers.
In Ghost Project, a construction site becomes a character in its own right, alive with creaks, hollows, and whispers that drift through the air like dust motes on a midnight breeze. The story follows an earnest engineer who must confront a restless ghost with a mischievous streak, a specter who insists on inspecting every bolt, every beam, and every failed promise. The ghost isn’t just a menace; it’s a mirror, reflecting our fears and desires back at us with a wink. It’s horror that bites with suspense and lands with a punchline you didn’t see coming, a film that respects the intelligence of its audience while inviting them to lean in and scream-laugh in unison.
The cast is a constellation of warmth and skill. Regine Angeles brings depth and resilience, turning every scene into a magnet for the heart. Dennis Padilla anchors the drama with a grounded, everyman charm that makes the supernatural feel personal. And that’s just the start—the film’s roster expands with surprise appearances that will thrill longtime fans and draw in new viewers from around the world.
The premise
The premise promises universal allure: a haunted construction project that becomes a crucible for courage, friendship, and the unexpected ways laughter can illuminate the darkest corners. It’s a film that invites families to share a screen, couples to hold hands through tense moments, and genre fans to celebrate a fresh, fearless blend of scares and smiles. The world of Ghost Project is built to travel—sharply shot, emotionally honest, and crafted with a sensitivity to pacing that keeps the adrenaline alive from the first glow of the night shift to the final, cathartic reveal.
A private joke tucked into the narrative rewards attentive viewers with that satisfying, insider smile, while the broad strokes deliver large-scale suspense, clever set-pieces, and a production design that makes every frame feel cinematic—lush, tactile, and immersive. The film isn’t content to be watched; it’s meant to be experienced, a shared adventure that invites audiences to lean forward, gasp, giggle, and scream in unison as the story unfolds.
The future
Filming begins in January 2026, with a roadmap that ensures every scare lands, every joke lands just right, and every emotional beat lands with resonance. Nijel de Mesa emphasizes that Ghost Project isn’t a satire or documentary; it’s a fully fledged horror-comedy designed to travel far and wide, with a sly, lovingly tucked-in joke for Filipino audiences that glints with recognition and charm. The result is a film that respects its audience’s time and trust: high-stakes thrills, warm human moments, and a sense of wonder that lingers long after the credits roll.
Ghost Project is the kind of movie that draws in curious moviegoers who crave adrenaline, fans who live for clever humor, and families seeking a shared, unforgettable cinematic experience. It’s built for NDMplus’s global platform, ready to connect with viewers across continents through a story that feels intimate and expansive at the same time. When you watch Ghost Project, you’re not just watching a horror film; you’re entering a world where the line between fear and laughter blurs into something extraordinary, a movie designed to be talked about, rewatched, and cherished for years to come.
