Alfred Vargas reacts as ‘Aquil, I Love You!’ clip with Diana Zubiri resurfaces, goes viral

Alfred Vargas said he was surprised and pleased after a throwback Encantadia clip featuring him and Diana Zubiri began circulating online and quickly went viral.

The viral clip features Alfred as Aquil, the commander of the Lirean army, and Diana as Danaya, one of the four Sang’gres in the original Encantadia, which aired on GMA Network in 2005. Their pairing, later known as DanAquil, became one of the most popular loveteams to emerge from the fantasy series.

The actor shared that he did not expect the old scene—popularly referred to as the “Aquil, I love you!” moment—to trend again nearly two decades after it originally aired.

“Ang tagal na nitong Encantadia at nakagugulat na hanggang ngayon, may mga kinikilig pa rin sa amin,” he shared.

(It’s been a long time since Encantadia, and it’s surprising that people still feel kilig over us until now.)

“Nagulat nga ako nang may nag-tag, nagpadala sa akin niyang video. Nakatutuwa na trending siya.” (I was really surprised when someone tagged me and sent me that video. It’s nice that it’s trending.)

He added, “Maganda ang naging working relationship namin ni Diana at we remain friends until now. Hope makagawa uli kami ng movie o series.”

(We had a good working relationship, and we remain friends until now. I hope we get to make another movie or series.)

Their onscreen partnership continued in Etheria: Ang Ikalimang Kaharian ng Encantadia (2005–2006) and in the final chapter of the original saga, Encantadia: Pag-ibig Hanggang Wakas in 2006.

Following the success of their loveteam, GMA Network gave Alfred and Diana another project—this time as co-hosts of the reality show Ang Pagbabago, which premiered in July 2006.

They also starred in the comedy film I Wanna Be Happy the same year, directed by Jose Javier Reyes under Seiko Films, alongside Eddie Garcia and Gloria Romero. The two had earlier worked together in Liberated (2003), directed by Mac Alejandre.

In the original Encantadia, Aquil’s character died in the first season finale. Alfred later returned to the franchise in Etheria as Amarro, the kind-hearted father of Aquil and a half-Hathor, half-Diwata.

Alfred and Diana were not paired together in the 2016 Encantadia sequel. Diana portrayed LilaSari, while Alfred appeared separately as Amarro. The roles of Aquil and Danaya were later played by Rocco Nacino and Sanya Lopez.

The resurfaced “Aquil, I love you!” scene is now being cited by fans as one of their favorite moments from the series, with many expressing renewed kilig and openly calling for a reunion project.

With Alfred himself acknowledging the continued support and saying he remains close friends with Diana, netizens are once again hoping that DanAquil might reunite—this time, in a new movie or series.
