JCI Manila launches Monching Awards, challenges members to “lead beyond the next generation”

JCI Manila, the largest Junior Chamber International (JCI) chapter in the Philippines and one of the most awarded in the world, officially launched the Monching Awards during a media event held in Pasay City on January 29, 2026. It is the newest initiative of the organization aimed at challenging its members to lead beyond borders and, more importantly, beyond the next generation.

While the Monching Awards introduces a new internal recognition platform for the organization, the focus of the launch was firmly on the values and mindset behind it, as emphasized by JCI Manila leaders during the press conference.

During the press conference, newly elected JCI Manila president Edison Ke highlighted that the awards program is rooted in a responsibility that extends far beyond a single term or set of projects.

“We should go beyond the limit of our borders and most importantly whatever we do in our community affairs, community divisions, we should always do it beyond the next generation,” Ke said.

Ke also clarified that the Monching Awards is not designed to fuel competition driven by ego. As an all-male chapter with a shared passion for community service, he explained that the organization sees the program as a way to push members to elevate the quality of their work across all areas.

“Since we are an all-male chapter and we have this passion for our community, passion for helping our communities, we don’t really take it as a competition, as an ego,” Ke shared. He stressed that the presence of reputable external judges with high integrity is meant to challenge members to give their best—from project conceptualization to fundraising and execution.

“These awards will really challenge our members to put their best in their projects, in how they fundraise, in how they execute the projects,” he added. “It’s not about competing with one another. It’s more about challenging them to be better because we know that we can still do better, and hopefully through this award we can attain our full potential.”

JCI Manila Area II vice president Calel Gosingtian placed the Monching Awards within the broader context of the organization’s long-standing culture of excellence. He noted that JCI Manila has been around since 1947, making it the first JCI local organization in Asia, the largest in the Philippines, and among the most awarded chapters globally.

“One of the reasons that happened is because of our tradition of excellence,” Gosingtian said. According to him, the launch of the Monching Awards is intended to further strengthen the chapter’s internal structure through better documentation, more thoughtfully designed projects, stronger internal competition, and clearer, more constructive feedback from external judges.

Gosingtian also underscored the importance of partnerships and accountability, saying that the awards system is meant to challenge members to continuously improve and truly embody the call to “lead beyond the next generation.”

Mission and vision behind the Monching Awards

The Monching Awards is guided by a mission to honor and empower members, leaders, and projects that embody innovation, impact, and brotherhood. By institutionalizing a culture of recognition and continuous improvement within JCI Manila, the program aims to foster leaders who serve with excellence and inspire others to uphold the chapter’s enduring legacy.

Its vision is to establish the Monching Awards as JCI Manila’s premier recognition platform—one that celebrates leadership, excellence, and service while immortalizing the legacy of Ramon V. del Rosario Sr. and inspiring every member to lead beyond with purpose, passion, and integrity.

Honoring the legacy of “Monching”

Launched in 2026, the Monching Awards marks the first internal awards program in JCI Manila’s 78-year history. The initiative institutionalizes recognition for members, projects, and leadership within the chapter itself, drawing inspiration from the same spirit of excellence found in the Temiong Awards, but with a focus on JCI Manila’s own legacy, culture, and brotherhood.

The awards are named in honor of Ramon “Monching” V. del Rosario Sr., the charter president of JCI Manila and Junior Chamber International Philippines. A visionary businessman and nation-builder, Del Rosario founded JCI Manila in 1947, laying the foundation for leadership, service, and moral integrity that continues to guide the organization today.

With the launch of the Monching Awards, JCI Manila is positioning recognition not as an end goal, but as a tool—one that challenges its members to raise standards, strengthen impact, and lead far beyond their own time.
