As the nation marks four decades since the historic 1986 uprising, organizers of the People Power 40 Kick-Off Concert are placing the spotlight firmly on today’s pressing challenge: corruption.
Set on Feb. 21 at Quezon Memorial Circle, the commemorative gathering will carry the theme “Awit at Aksyon Kontra Korapsyon,” underscoring a renewed call for civic action alongside remembrance of the bloodless and peaceful revolution that reshaped Philippine democracy.
The concert is designed not only to rekindle the spirit of People Power but also to strengthen and intensify the continuing fight against corruption. By combining music and advocacy, the event aims to transform remembrance into meaningful action.
In a joint statement, Mayors for Good Governance (M4GG) and Kaya Natin! emphasized that the same unity and courage that helped restore democracy in 1986 remain relevant today. According to the groups, the collective resolve that once defended democratic institutions can now be directed toward confronting corruption and promoting good governance.
Through “Awit at Aksyon Kontra Korapsyon,” the People Power 40 Kick-Off Concert seeks to remind Filipinos that the values that defined the EDSA movement—solidarity, bravery, and civic responsibility—can once again shape the country’s future.
“People Power proved that the Filipino people, when united, can stand up to injustice and demand accountability. This concert is a way to honor that legacy while encouraging citizens, especially the youth, to continue the fight for transparency and good governance,” the organizers said.
Through this event, they aim to reinforce that fighting corruption is a shared responsibility for all Filipinos.
The concert will feature some of the country’s top performers, including Ogie Alcasid, Janno Gibbs, Rivermaya, Ice Seguerra, Ebe Dancel, Pio Balbuena, Morobeats, Elmo Magalona, Arkin Magalona, Chelsea Alley, and Over October.
Adding color to the celebration are stand-up comedians Alex Calleja and Red Ollero, Iza Calzado, Bea Binene, and DJ JhaiHo.
Pre-show begins at 4 p.m., with the main concert starting at 6 p.m.
