‘Final Destination’ vibes? ‘Whistle’ brings new horror nightmare to theaters

Horror fans who grew up fearing every random accident after watching the Final Destination franchise might want to brace themselves once again — because a new film is arriving that critics are already comparing to the iconic death-driven series.

Opening in cinemas nationwide on February 18, 2026, WHISTLE comes from the same company that released Final Destination 1, 2, 3, and 4, instantly raising expectations among genre fans who love elaborate, nerve-shredding death sequences and relentless suspense.

Directed by Corin Hardy, the filmmaker behind The Nun, the film marks his return to the big screen with another uncompromising vision of fear — one that leans heavily into atmosphere, dread, and tension that lingers long after the scene ends.

Early reactions have drawn comparisons to Final Destination, and it’s easy to see why. The concept taps into the same chilling idea: death isn’t random — and once it sets its sights on you, escape may be impossible.

Adding to the buzz, the film has been Rated R-16 by the Movie and Television Review and Classification Board (MTRCB). Its release in the Philippines on February 18 will have no cuts.

Synopsis of ‘Whistle’

A misfit group of unwitting high school students stumble upon a cursed object, an ancient Aztec Death Whistle. They discover that blowing the whistle and the terrifying sound it emits will summon their future deaths to hunt them down. As the body count rises, the friends investigate the origins of the deadly artifact in a desperate effort to stop the horrifying chain of events they have set in motion.
