Singer Jojo Mendrez, known in the entertainment circle as “Revival King”, has asked that his guest appearance on the YouTube talk show DIREKwentuhan not be released online, saying parts of the interview crossed personal boundaries and could negatively affect his image as an artist.
The interview was conducted by filmmaker and host Ronald Carballo, whose online program is known for its frank and often confrontational style. The show frequently features candid, no-holds-barred conversations with personalities from the entertainment industry, sometimes touching on controversial or deeply personal topics.
According to reports, the episode had already been recorded and was expected to be uploaded on YouTube.
However, Mendrez later appealed to the show’s producers to stop the release of the episode after the conversation allegedly turned toward topics he found uncomfortable.
The singer said he agreed to the interview in good faith, expecting a discussion centered on his music and career as a revival singer. Instead, he claimed that the conversation shifted to personal matters, including questions about his sexuality and remarks about how he earned the title “Revival King”.
“I respect interviews and media conversations, but there should also be respect for personal boundaries,” Mendrez said in a statement.
Reports from Abante Tonite also claimed that Mendrez felt some of the questions were inappropriate and potentially damaging to his image. The singer reportedly believed that the direction of the interview went beyond professional discussion and touched on issues he considered too personal.
Despite his appeal, Carballo said the interview itself proceeded normally at the time of recording.
According to the host, Mendrez willingly answered the questions during the conversation. Carballo also suggested that the singer may have only realized later that some of the topics discussed in the interview were more revealing than expected.
As of this writing, it remains unclear whether the episode will be released online or withheld following Mendrez’s request.
The issue has since drawn attention online, with personalities such as Jobert Sucaldito also commenting on the controversy. For now, Mendrez said he remains focused on his music career and upcoming projects while hoping the matter can be settled amicably.
