‘Resident Evil: The Final Chapter’ ends explosive saga in IMAX PH cinemas

Every reign comes to an end, and Alice’s journey concludes in IMAX 3D!

Columbia Pictures’ action-thriller Resident Evil: The Final Chapter will open in IMAX cinemas across the Philippines on February 1, 2017 simultaneous with the film’s debut in regular theaters.

The IMAX release of Resident Evil: The Final Chapter will be digitally re-mastered into the image and sound quality of an IMAX 3D Experience® with proprietary IMAX DMR® (Digital Re-mastering) technology. The crystal-clear images coupled with IMAX’s customized theatre geometry and powerful digital audio create a unique environment that will make audiences feel as if they are in the movie.

Resident Evil: The Final Chapter, marks the sixth and final installment in the astoundingly successful film franchise adaptation of Capcom’s hugely popular video game series, having grossed over $1billion worldwide to date and being the most successful video game film franchise ever.

Given the franchise’s remarkable success, the fimmakers of Resident Evil: The Final Chapter must find a point of difference, create an exceptional and unseen angle to the narrative, and, if even possible, raise the bar and deliver to audiences a spectacular close to the series.

Says Producer Jeremy Bolt, “Fans can expect an Alice who is more vulnerable, more human, and a world that is more desperate, more distraught. The characters are at the end of their tether, giving us a sense that humanity is just about to lose to the T-Virus and to the Umbrella Corporation.

Says Milla Jovovich who returns as Alice: “I think fans are going to love this movie because it is everything that we have wanted but didn’t have the chance to make for the past six movies, and at this point finally we’re doing it. There are so many aspects that will be mind blowing, the crazy sets, the amazing stunts- there’s something for everybody. This movie has kind of got it all and I’m very proud of it”.

Co-star Ali Larter enthuses, “It’s unbelievable that this will be the ‘last chapter’ and I think it will be the rawest. Audiences will feel this different connection between people and sense a real humanity.

Milla-Jovovich-Resident-Evil

Resident Evil: The Final Chapter picks up immediately after the events in Resident Evil: Retribution, in which Alice is the only survivor of what was meant to be humanity’s final stand against the undead. Now, she must return to where the nightmare began – The Hive in Raccoon City, where the Umbrella Corporation is gathering its forces for a final strike against the only remaining survivors of the apocalypse.

Among the diverse group of acting talent are returning stars, Milla Jovovich reprising her starring role as Alice, Ali Larter (Resident Evil: Afterlife), as Claire Redfield, Shawn Roberts (Resident Evil: Afterlife), as Albert Wesker, and Iain Glen (Game of Thrones, Resident Evil: Extinction) in the role of Dr. Alexander Isaacs, and newcomers to the franchise include Ruby Rose (xXx: Return of Xander Cage), Irish actor Eoin Macken (The Night Shift), Japanese television personality and model, Rola, as Cobalt, South Korean actor, Lee Joon-Gi (My Girl) as Commando, British actor, Fraser James (Law & Order), with Latin American actor, William Levy (Addicted).

Resident Evil: The Final Chapter is distributed by Columbia Pictures, the local office of Sony Pictures Releasing International.

‘Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them’ launches IMAX poster

Warner Bros. Pictures has just launched the IMAX poster for its new fantasy adventure “Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them.” The film opens in IMAX theaters and regular cinemas across the Philippines on Thursday, Nov. 17th.

“Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them” takes us to a new era in J.K. Rowling’s Wizarding World, decades before Harry Potter and half a world away.

Academy Award winner Eddie Redmayne stars in the central role of Magizoologist Newt Scamander, under the direction of David Yates, who helmed the last four “Harry Potter” blockbusters.

There are growing dangers in the wizarding world of 1926 New York. Something mysterious is leaving a path of destruction in the streets, threatening to expose the wizarding community to the Second Salemers, a fanatical faction of No-Majs (American for Muggles) bent on eradicating them. And the powerful, dark wizard Gellert Grindelwald, after wreaking havoc in Europe, has slipped away…and is now nowhere to be found.

Unaware of the rising tensions, Newt Scamander arrives in the city nearing the end of a global excursion to research and rescue magical creatures, some of which are safeguarded in the magical hidden dimensions of his deceptively nondescript leather case. But potential disaster strikes when unsuspecting No-Maj Jacob Kowalski inadvertently lets some of Newt’s beasts loose in a city already on edge—a serious breach of the Statute of Secrecy that former Auror Tina Goldstein jumps on, seeing her chance to regain her post as an investigator. However, things take an ominous turn when Percival Graves, the enigmatic Director of Magical Security at MACUSA (Magical Congress of the United States of America), casts his suspicions on both Newt…and Tina.

Now allied, Newt and Tina, together with Tina’s sister, Queenie, and their new No-Maj friend, Jacob, form a band of unlikely heroes, who must recover Newt’s missing beasts before they come to harm. But the stakes are higher than these four outsiders—now branded fugitives—ever imagined, as their mission puts them on a collision course with dark forces that could push the wizarding and No-Maj worlds to the brink of war.

“Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them” also stars Katherine Waterston as Tina, Tony Award winner Dan Fogler as Jacob, Alison Sudol as Tina’s sister, Queenie, Ezra Miller as Credence, two-time Oscar nominee Samantha Morton as Mary Lou Barebone, Oscar winner Jon Voight as Henry Shaw, Sr., Carmen Ejogo as Seraphina Picquery, and Colin Farrell as Percival Graves.

The film marks the screenwriting debut of J.K. Rowling, whose seven beloved Harry Potter books were adapted into the top-grossing film franchise of all time. Her script was inspired by the Hogwarts textbook Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them, written by her character Newt Scamander.

Warner Bros. Pictures presents a Heyday Films Production, a David Yates Film, “Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them.” The film will open nationwide November 17, 2016, in 2D and 3D in select theatres and IMAX, and will be distributed by Warner Bros. Pictures, a Warner Bros. Entertainment Company.

“Ghostbusters” makes its long-awaited return, rebooted with a cast of hilarious new characters. Thirty years after the beloved original franchise took the world by storm, director Paul Feig brings his fresh take to the supernatural comedy, joined by some of the funniest actors working today – Melissa McCarthy, Kristen Wiig, Kate McKinnon, Leslie Jones, and Chris Hemsworth.

“This Ghostbusters film is not only hilarious, it has the kind of action and spectacle that the IMAX format was made to showcase,” said Rory Bruer, President of Worldwide Distribution for Sony Pictures. “We’re thrilled that audiences will have the chance to experience this incredible movie in IMAX.”

Director Paul Feig utilized the big-screen technology with his four paranormal investigators, saying it takes the comedy to “the next level,” balancing all the funny with a giant scope, while also giving audiences “that lost giant movie-house experience.”

“What I love about IMAX is it really creates this weirdly intimate experience between you and the characters,” says Feig. “You really get pulled into the screen because the screen is everywhere — it is your entire field of vision. And the IMAX experience really does what we as filmmakers desperately try to do, which is to pull an audience into a film and make them forget about the outside world for the two hours that they’re with us.”

“Ghostbusters is a cultural phenomenon, and we look forward to bringing this exciting re-imagining to IMAX® 3D theatres around the world,” said Greg Foster, Senior Executive Vice President, IMAX Corp. and CEO of IMAX Entertainment. “Sony has assembled a hugely talented team of filmmakers which has created a film with amazing scope and scale in which the stunts, the thrills and, of course, the laughs will all be bigger in IMAX.”

‘The Revenant’ to have advance screenings on Feb 2 last full shows

Leonardo DiCaprio’s award-winning and acclaimed film, “The Revenant” from Academy Award winning director Alejandro Iñarritu holds its public advance screenings in Philippine theatres (2D and IMAX screens) as last full show nationwide on February 2, Tuesday – hours ahead of its opening (following) day on February 3.

Based on true events from legendary Hugh Glass’ accounts on surviving the wild, uncertain times and even returning from the dead, “The Revenant” is this year’s most awaited cinema event. In THE REVENANT, the highly anticipated film from 20th Century Fox, Leonardo DiCaprio plays Hugh Glass, a fur trapper and frontiersman who is left for dead deep in the unchartered American wilderness by a traitorous member of his team, John Fitzgerald (Tom Hardy). With sheer will as his only weapon, Glass must navigate a hostile environment, a brutal winter and warring tribes in a relentless quest to survive and exact vengeance on Fitzgerald. Inspired by a true story, the film is directed and co-written by renowned filmmaker and Academy Award-winner Alejandro González Iñárritu (Birdman, Babel).

Glass’s mythology began in 1823, when he was among thousands joining the fur trade, a driving new force in the US economy. It was a time when many saw the wild as a spiritual void that demanded to be tamed and conquered by the steeliest of men. And so they poured into the unknown, plying unmapped rivers, disappearing into impossibly lush forests, seeking not only excitement and adventure but also profits — often in fierce competition with the Native tribes for whom these lands had long been home.

Many such men died anonymously, but Glass entered the annals of American folklore by flat-out refusing to die. His legend sparked after he faced one of the West’s most feared dangers: a startled grizzly bear. For even the most tested frontiersmen that should have been the end. But not for Glass. In Iñárritu’s telling of the tale, a mauled Glass clings to life – then suffers a human betrayal that fuels him to continue at any cost. In spite of tremendous loss, Glass pulls himself from an early grave – clawing his way through a gauntlet of unknown perils and unfamiliar cultures on a journey that becomes not just a search for reckoning but for redemption. As Glass moves through the frontier in turmoil, he comes to reject the urge for destruction that once drove him. He has become a “revenant” — one returned from the dead.

“The Revenant is a story of harsh survival but also one of inspirational hope,” Iñárritu says. “For me, the important part was to convey this adventure with a sense of wonder and discovery, as an exploration of both nature and human nature.”

“The Revenant” opens in cinemas across the nation starting February 3 (also in IMAX screens) from 20th Century Fox to be distributed by Warner Bros. Check your nearest theatres for schedule and advance ticket purchase.
