10 films make it to the shortlist for the visual effects race as announced by the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences.
Here are the films in contention (in alphabetical order):
- “Arrival”
- “The BFG”
- “Captain America: Civil War”
- “Deepwater Horizon”
- “Doctor Strange”
- “Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them”
- “The Jungle Book”
- “Kubo and the Two Strings”
- “Passengers”
- “Rogue One: A Star Wars Story”
From the initial list of 20 eligible films last December 2, the excluded films are the following: “Alice Through the Looking Glass,” “Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice,” “Deadpool,” “Independence Day: Resurgence,” “Miss Peregrine’s Home for Peculiar Children,” “Star Trek Beyond,” “Suicide Squad,” “Sully,” “Warcraft” and “X-Men: Apocalypse.”
The final five will be announced on January 24. The 89th Academy Awards will be held on February 26.
