MIGHT BE IN DANGER: Scarlet Witch/Wanda Maximoff
On the back of my head, could Marvel pull a trick on us and kill Wanda (Vision’s lover) instead? Since her introduction in Age of Ultron most of her story centers on her romance with Vision. It’s a classic move. Let the audience ship them so it will be extra painful when one of them dies. Worse, what if we are set up for a Shakespearean tragedy where both of them actually die? Hence, I put her on the danger zone.

PROBABLY WILL DIE: War Machine/James Rhodes
We’ve last seen Rhodey in Civil War where he sustains a major spinal injury thanks to a malfunctioning Vision. A shot from the trailer shows him standing erect with some form of a robotic brace attached to his body. Wouldn’t it be too uncomfortable to go to a war with that? Anyway, all Thanos has to do is to rip that from him and he will be very vulnerable. His chances are just not so good. Rhodey has taken the back seat in much recent MCU films and from a writer’s perspective, it would be wise to let him go.
PROBABLY SAFE: Spider-Man/Peter Parker
Spider-Man/Iron-Spider may look like he’s in a really bad shape from the trailer released but his upcoming sequel erases all doubts against his survival. He’s still in the amateur level of his superhero career so there’s plenty of story to tell. However, being young and reckless in nature, he might indirectly cause the death of another avenger.
PROBABLY WILL DIE: Iron Man/Tony Stark
MCU used a lot of money to reel Robert Downey Jr. in the Avengers. He reportedly received $40M for Civil War, $50M for The Avengers, $75M for Iron Man 3 and a whopping $200M is budgeted for him in Infinity War parts 1 and 2 – the entire production cost for Black Panther itself! It’s not like his market value will drop here on out. The actor is also in his 50s now so it’s only a matter of time before the suit gets filled by a different character. Could it be Pepper Potts?
Apart from real-life reasons, Tony Stark has already shown his willingness to sacrifice his life in the first Avengers film. In Homecoming, Tony is modeled as a mentor to Spider-Man (the Obi Wan Kenobi to Anakin Skywalker, if you will). Hence, his death will not only shake the Avengers’ moral but it will also serve as a character building moment for Spider-Man. My bet is this: Tony Stark will die trying to save young Peter Parker.
PROBABLY SAFE: Princess Shuri
“Just because something works doesn’t mean it can’t be improved.” – Shuri
I believe Shuri is the perfect candidate to be the next Iron (Wo)Man. She’s more tech-savvy than Tony and she’s quickly becoming a fan favorite. Based on the trailer, it looks like she’s staying out of the Wakanda fray and she’ll work her magic behind the scene. That sounds good. We need her for the next MCU films to come.
