Upcoming drama film ‘Pieta’ starts filming this February, with internationally-acclaimed filmmaker Adolfo Alix, Jr. on the helm. It is top-billed by no other than the Superstar and National Artist for Film and Broadcast Ms. Nora Aunor and multi-awarded actress Ms. Gina Alajar who will both play pivotal roles.
Aside from being the producer for this project, Alfred Vargas will be acting with these two revered thespians in Philippine cinema in this cautionary tale of a mother and son trying to find answers from their tainted past as they seek redemption.
Vargas will be playing the role of Isaac, who was just released from prison but believes he is wrongfully accused for the killing of his tather years ago when he was young. Now, he is looking for answer to know the truth.
Aunor will play Rebecca, Vargas’ blind mother who grapples between her memories of the past. On another hand, Alajar will be Beth, Aunor’s friend who hold selflessly devotes herself in taking care of Rebecca.
Vargas is also part of GMA’s new afternoon drama AraBella, top-billed by Camille Prats who is returning to the drama scene after a five-year hiatus. Featuring of Kapuso’s budding drama princesses, Shayne Sava and Althea Ablan, AraBella will premiere this February 27 on GMA Afternoon Prime.
Aunor’s latest film KONTRABIDA won Best Asian Film in the Hanoi International Film Festival. #Kontrabida will be released in the Philippines this year.

About Pieta
Produced by Alternative Vision Cinema and Noble Wolf Films, the story of Pieta follows Isaac who tries to navigate the outside world after spending years in jail for killing his father. He goes home to his mother, Rebecca.
He wanted to know the truth about his father’s death for he believes that he was wrongly accused.
But Rebecca, the key to finding out the truth is now suffering from Alzheimer’s and is now barely able to see. She can’t recognize her own son and can’t even remember what happened in the past, mumbling rumbling thoughts and memories. Rebecca is being taken cared of by a loyal friend, Beth who selflessly devoted herself to her.
As Isaac spends his days with his mother and warms up to her, he heeds the advice of Beth to abandon his search for the truth about what happened on the day his father died.
The important thing is that he’s now with Rebecca, who needs him. He may now start a new life, on a clean slate. [Press release]
