Sofia Pablo turns 18, stays ‘mommy’s girl,’ happy in love team with Allen Ansay

Realizing significant milestones during one’s teenage years can be a remarkable achievement. For Kapuso teen star Sofia Pablo, it wasn’t a difficult feat. At a recent press conference for her debut celebration, she proudly expressed her identity as a “mommy’s girl” and emphasized her commitment to honesty in her relationship with her mother.

“Siguro sa life milestone, I remain to be a proud ‘mommy’s girl.’ I’m proud na never ko siyang sinuway, I never lied to her. Some people may say na ‘Imposibleng hindi ka nagla-lie.’ I’m proud, I never lied to my mom. I always prioritize her.”

(“Perhaps in terms of life milestones, I continue to be a proud ‘mommy’s girl.’ I’m proud that I never disobeyed her, I never lied to her. Some people may say, ‘It’s impossible not to lie.’ I’m proud, I never lied to my mom. I always prioritize her.”)

Career success and on-screen chemistry

In addition to her familial pride, Sofia is also proud of her accomplishments in her career. Her on-screen chemistry with fellow Sparkle artist Allen Ansay has garnered attention, leading to the emergence of ‘Team Jolly’ as a promising and bankable love team. Their success is exemplified by their primetime series ‘Luv is: Caught in His Arms,’ an adaptation of a popular Wattpad novel.

“Siguro yung career milestone is yung ‘Love Is: Caught in My Arms,’ kasi it was my first project with Aki na kami lang yung lead. And it was really successful, sa parang do’n namin napakita na we can be the next generation na love team ng GMA. So I’m really proud of ‘Love Is: Caught in My Arms,’ kasi it’s really nice, and I can proudly say na maganda talaga siya.”

(“Perhaps the career milestone is ‘Love Is: Caught in My Arms,’ because it was my first project with Aki where we were the only leads. And it was really successful, it showed that we can be the next generation of love team in GMA. So I’m really proud of ‘Love Is: Caught in My Arms,’ because it’s really nice, and I can proudly say that it’s really good.”)

Looking ahead: exploring new roles, birthday wish

Now that she has reached adulthood, Sofia is eager to explore more challenging roles beyond the typical teenage characters. She looks forward to delving into more complex love stories with her co-star Afie, expanding her range as an actress.

“Siguro ngayong I am 18, mas gusto kong mag-explore ng mas challenging na love story with Afie, since yun nga I was young, so parang kahit papa’no iniingatan din na ‘Wag naman masyadong ganyan kasi bata pa si Sofia baka sabihin ng tao, ganyan.’”

(“Perhaps now that I am 18, I want to explore more challenging love stories with Afie, because since I was young, I’ve been careful not to take on roles that are too mature, because people might say things.”)

Despite her growing success, Sofia remains grounded in her desires for genuine happiness. Her birthday wish is a simple yet profound one: to be genuinely happy, free from negativity.

“Actually, birthday wish ko ‘to every year: I just wish for genuine happiness. Yung talaga walang negativity. Yung talagang happy lang ako.”

(“Actually, my birthday wish every year is: I just wish for genuine happiness. Where there’s really no negativity. Where I’m just really happy.”)

Authenticity in celebration

Authenticity and simplicity are also evident in Sofia’s approach to her birthday celebration. She opts for a straightforward attire plan, prioritizing comfort over extravagance to ensure an enjoyable and distraction-free experience.

“Well actually, yun nga, ang dami nang nagtatanong: ‘Ano ba’ng suot mo?’, ‘Ilang palit?’ Kasi parang they know me na talagang laging paandar sa mga outfit, pero actually all throughout the party, I won’t be changing.”

(“Well actually, there are already many asking: ‘What are you wearing?’, ‘How many changes?’ Because they know that I always go all out with outfits, but actually all throughout the party, I won’t be changing.”)

Upcoming project: ‘Prinsesa ng City Jail’

Looking ahead, Sofia is gearing up for her upcoming Afternoon Prime series ‘Prinsesa ng City Jail,’ where she continues to collaborate with Allen Ansay. This time, their on-screen romance faces challenges from a love triangle involving Will Ashley, adding complexity to their characters’ relationships.

Joining Sofia in ‘Prinsesa ng City Jail’ are Beauty Gonzalez (who will play the role of her mother), Radson Flores, Lauren King, Joyce Ching, Ina Feleo, Dominic Ochoa, Al Tantay, Minnie Aguilar, Ayen Munji-Laurel, Keempee De Leon, and Denise Laurel, under the direction of Jerry Lopez Sineneng.

Happy 18th birthday, Sofia!
