‘Boy Kills World’ review: Brutal bloodshed with a heart

Director Moritz Mohr, in his feature directorial debut, delivers a fever dream action film in ‘Boy Kills World’ as it follows Boy, a deaf person with a vibrant imagination. When his family is murdered, he is trained by a mysterious shaman to repress his childish imagination and become an instrument of death.

The film delivers an over-the-top action experience complete with the blood and guts that fans of the brutal genre crave. It feels like a part-anime, part-video game; this film boasts top-notch action sequences, plenty of humor, a stellar cast, and, surprisingly, a clever storyline with a twist.

The whole cast was great! Among them were Jessica Rothe, who adds a strong vibe with sweetness all over the end, and Andrew Koji, who brings a strong support to Bill Skarsgard. Bill Skarsgård, being the main character, delivers a committed performance that adds to the film’s charm. He proves there’s more he could offer, a cool action star. His role is challenging because the character is deaf and mute, but his performance is a treat (though we do hear his thoughts as voiceover throughout which makes it more interesting).

The whole action is total madness, yet the final set piece is exceptionally well-executed, creatively insane, brutal, and bizarre. It was the most shocking and satisfying action sequence because of its amazing twist putting viewers at the edge of their seats.

It went from a gory to heartwarming end that will put a smile on your face when you come out of the cinema.

Best experienced on the big screen, ‘Boy Kills World’ is a comically gory thrill ride that demands to be seen in theaters, with crisp sounds and visuals for maximum viewer satisfaction.
