Thunderous claps and cheering surrounded the Mall of Asia Arena in Pasay City for this momentous gathering of musical artists and TV and movie stars. The anticipation was palpable as the venue filled with excitement, eager to embark on a journey filled with love stories and heartfelt melodies.
On the big screen, the ‘Unexpected’ romantic drama film unfolded, captivating viewers with its poignant narrative. Starring Kate Yalung, Teejay Marquez, Tim Tuppil, Jameson Blake, and Riza Faulkerson (sister of Alden Richards), the film, narrated by Dr. Clark (Kuya Daniel Razon), follows the story of an orphaned, independent woman (played by Yalung) whose quest for romance takes unexpected turns when she meets a lawyer (Marquez) with a hidden truth.
But that was only the beginning. The concert segment elevated the atmosphere further with the electrifying presence of Kapuso star, Asia’s Limitless Star, Julie Anne San Jose. Her soulful renditions of Mark Carpio’s “Hiling,” Jimmy Bondoc’s “Let Me Be The One,” Parokya Ni Edgar’s “Your Song,” and Faith Hill’s “There You’ll Be” stirred hearts and ignited emotions.
Award-winning act Cup of Joe mesmerized the audience with their soul-stirring covers and original compositions, including Gilbert O’Sullivan’s “Alone Again (Naturally)” and their own hits like “Tingin,” “Ikaw Pa Rin Ang Pipiliin Ko,” and “Patutunguhan.”
Alternative pop-rock band 6cyclemind injected a nostalgic vibe into the evening with their hits like “Sandalan,” along with their unique renditions of The Eraserheads’ “Alapaap,” Teeth’s “Prinsesa,” and Two Minds Crack’s “Upside Down,” prompting everyone to stand and groove to the beat.
Singer-songwriter Arthur Miguel enchanted the crowd with his heartfelt performance of “Lihim,” as well as his soulful renditions of Rey Valera’s “Walang Kapalit” and Taylor Swift’s “Crazier.” And let’s not forget KDR’s very own Hakki, whose powerful rendition of Gloria Gaynor’s “I Will Survive” resonated with the audience, culminating in their captivating duet, performing “Ang Wakas.”
Special participation bookended the evening with enchanting performances by Wish Chorale, adding an extra layer of magic to the event. The seamless synergy of elements was directed by Arnold Sanchez, complemented by the musical direction of Jason Quitane.
