‘Inside Out 2’ review: Tear-jerking maze of self-worth

Disney and Pixar’s “Inside Out 2” brings familiar beats from the first film, but there’s also enough new and relatable content to bring it together in a highly effective manner. Maya Hawke’s portrayal of Anxiety and Ayo Edebiri’s depiction of Envy are quite surprising. I didn’t expect them to delve so deeply into these emotions, but “Inside Out 2” is completely worthy of a sequel.

There are plenty of witty moments that land perfectly, much like the way it tugs at our emotions—eliciting tears and laughter precisely when needed. The film is undeniably compelling, offering viewers a poignant opportunity for introspection. It delves into the reality of identity, the challenges of growing up, and how to overcome them. The symbolism really shows how complex our emotions can be throughout our growth and maturity, as everything seems so simple as a kid.

The film handles new emotions wonderfully, especially Anxiety, and introduces a fantastic new crew. It’s a film that adults might benefit from even more than children. With its array of emotions and new characters, it helps those young at heart transition from toddler to teenage Riley.

It teaches the value of friendship and the moral principles acquired over the years, empowering viewers to overcome life’s challenges and stay grounded in their self-worth.

“Inside Out 2” still manages to bring scenes that would make you teary-eyed. It touches the deepest and hardest emotions that sometimes we need to acknowledge and accept. It’s okay to feel what you need to feel, as it can turn into something beautiful.

The film may not be a core memory of Pixar like the original, but it will surely leave a long-term impression on how this generation handles difficult emotions like anxiety.

Watching “Inside Out 2” in IMAX 3D added an extra layer of immersiveness. The visuals truly popped, making the experience even more engaging and vibrant. The enhanced visuals made the film’s emotional depth even more impactful.

‘Maybe this happens when you grow up, you feel less joy.’ — This quote from #InsideOut2 hits hard and speaks to reality, resonating deeply with many viewers. It makes the animated coming-of-age film incredibly relatable and timely, as it portrays the true meaning of puberty and teaches us that all our emotions are valid, even the difficult ones.

“Inside Out 2” has truly marked its own path, delivering a captivating sequel that evokes a full rollercoaster of emotions, making you feel truly alive, understood, and affirmed. It rightfully earns its place as one of the biggest animated films of 2024.

  1. An excellent review. “Inside Out 2” is definitely one of my most anticipated movies of the year. I’m a huge fan of the first film which set a high bar for the animated genre. With its colorful visuals, meaningful message and humor, it was one of those rare animated films that pleased both kids and adults alike. I am curious to see whether a sequel will surpass the standard set by its predecessor.
