CinePanalo sets deadline for student shorts on Aug. 15

The Puregold CinePanalo Film Festival has quickly gained recognition as one of the premier film festivals in the country, appealing particularly to students seeking funding for their dream short films.

In less than a week, Puregold is urging students to submit their applications by the August 15 deadline for a chance to win a short film production grant worth one hundred fifty thousand pesos (P150,000).

This coveted grant will be awarded to 25 entries from the pool of applicants. Like last year, the festival requires participants to focus their short films on the theme “Mga Kwentong Panalo ng Buhay,” promoting uplifting, inspiring, and family-oriented stories.

In order to ensure that student applicants will stick to the theme, those who apply by the August 15 deadline must present a complete synopsis of not more than 300 words in English or Filipino, along with a logline and a completed screenplay.

Applicants must also submit two (2) recent photos of the director along with the director’s resume, with accessible links to their sample works, as well as their duly acknowledged and signed ‘terms and conditions’ document and a certificate of enrollment for the current academic year to prove their qualification for the student shorts category.

“More than tickets sold or awards earned, we believe that the first Puregold CinePanalo Film Festival achieved its greatest milestone by simply allowing students to fulfill their filmmaking dreams,” said Puregold Senior Marketing Manager Ms. Ivy Piedad. “Young Filipino talent is worth affirming and cultivating, and that’s what we are proud to have done through the first CinePanalo, and what we shall be proud to do again with next year’s edition.”

In addition to the film grant, the 25 selected young filmmakers will also get the chance to show off their creations to the world through a premiere at the 2025 Puregold CinePanalo Film Festival, which will run from March 14 to 25, 2025, at Gateway Cinemas.

Entries will also snag the opportunity to compete for the festival’s numerous awards at the Puregold CinePanalo Awards Ceremony to be held on March 19, 2025. Winning entries will join the ranks of this year’s Puregold CinePanalo student shorts champions such as Ronjay Mendiola, whose film Last Shift netted him five awards—Best Short Film, Best Actor, Best Supporting Actor, Best Screenplay, and Best Poster. Other notable winners included Jenievive Adame, who won the Always Panalo Short Film award for her piece Smokey Journey, and Dizelle Masilungan, who won Best Director for his short film Kung Nag-aatubili.
