‘Roots of Contagion’ blends botanical horror with public health awareness

Pinoyflix Films officially unveiled Roots of Contagion, a new suspense-thriller project that combines botanical horror with an advocacy for disease prevention and hygiene awareness, during its recently held story conference attended by members of the media, bloggers, and supporters. The event introduced the film’s cast, official synopsis, and the terrifying concept behind the production.

Leading the cast are Althea Ablan, Kate Yalung, John Arcenas, and Abdul Rahman. They are joined by Jeffrey Santos, Dindo Arroyo, Lovely Rivero, Sharmaine Suarez, Rob Sy, Ramon Christopher Gutierrez, and Valerie Concepcion.

Directed by Jose “JR” Olinares and written by Prim Lamaroza, SMPI, the film is set within the historic halls of Colegio de San Juan de Letran Calamba. The story follows students facing an unexpected biological threat linked to a dangerous botanical contagion. While fictional, the narrative is grounded in realistic situations that highlight preparedness, rapid response, and proper health practices during outbreaks and emergencies.

The project also serves as a collaborative effort among educational institutions, government offices, private partners, and advocacy groups, reinforcing its goal of merging cinematic storytelling with public health awareness.
