Android-18 signs management deal with UY Records and Entertainment

Remember Android 18, the iconic blonde-haired female character from the hit anime Dragon Ball Z that many of us grew up watching? Well, there’s also a Filipino band that has been carrying the name for more than a decade.

Pop-punk/pop-rock band Android-18 officially enters a new chapter after signing a management contract with UY Records and Entertainment (UYRE), under the management of Mr. Tim Uy.

The contract signing and media conference preceded the band’s gig at a bar and events place in Mandaluyong City on August 15, 2026. The special evening was attended by media friends, family, fans, and colleagues as the band celebrated its new partnership and the next chapter of its musical journey.

During the Q&A portion, the band acknowledged the association of its name with the iconic Dragon Ball Z character, while also sharing the story behind how they came up with the name.

The members initially wanted a girl’s name for the band, as they wanted to put high regard on a female member of the group—now represented by their vocalist, Gela Quevedo. They also wanted to have a number at the end of the name, taking inspiration from bands such as Matchbox Twenty, Blink-182, and local band Moonstar88.

The result was Android-18, a name that has since become associated not only with the anime character familiar to many of their generation but also with their own identity as a Filipino pop-punk band.

Formed in 2011 in Rizal, the band is composed of Gela Quevedo on vocals, Niokz Arcega, Koy Quevedo, and Mark Mendoza on guitars, Kevs Ortillo on bass, and Ian Moral on drums. Android-18 has built a loyal following through its energetic live performances, catchy melodies, and relatable songwriting.

The group is known for fan-favorite tracks including “Teleserye,” “Alanganin,” “KSP,” “Sentimental,” and “Langit.” Its music has surpassed 2 million streams on Spotify, while the band has also amassed more than 55,000 monthly listeners and over 40,000 Facebook followers.

Throughout its career, Android-18 has won the Muzikademy Championship in 2012, represented the Greater Manila Area in Red Horse Muziklaban 2012, and received the Best Live Act award at the Philippine Indie Rock Awards in 2015. The band has also toured various parts of the Philippines and staged its first international performance in Taiwan in 2025.

Currently, Android-18 is in the studio recording its third full-length album following a brief hiatus. The new management deal with UYRE marks another milestone for the band as it looks to expand its reach locally and internationally.

Android-18 is also set to perform in Thailand this September alongside Filipino rock band Mayonnaise under Yellow Room Music Philippines, the record label home to artists including Mayonnaise, Soapdish, Hilera, and Sud.
