Sonia Gergis has been named Miss Universe Egypt 2026 and will represent the country at the 75th Miss Universe competition in Puerto Rico later this year.
The Miss Universe Egypt Organization officially announced Gergis’ appointment on August 12, following a comprehensive selection process that included candidate interviews, video submissions, evaluations, and deliberations by a panel of judges.
The organization assessed the candidates based on their communication skills, personality, presence, potential, and ability to represent Egypt on the international stage before selecting Gergis as its 2026 representative.
Gergis’ appointment also marks a return to the Miss Universe Egypt stage, where she competed last year and finished as the first runner-up. She now gets another opportunity to represent Egypt on the global pageant stage.
Her journey will be guided by Filipino National Director Josh Nugen, who oversees the Miss Universe Egypt organization.
For Gergis, the appointment represents a significant continuation of a journey that began with her participation in Miss Universe Egypt just one year ago, now giving her the opportunity to compete at the 75th anniversary edition of Miss Universe in Puerto Rico.
FROM FIRST RUNNER-UP TO MISS UNIVERSE EGYPT
From first runner-up to Miss Universe Egypt
Gergis previously competed for the national title in 2025, where she emerged as First Runner-Up to Sabrina Maged, who was crowned Miss Universe Egypt 2025.
Rather than viewing the result as the end of her pageant journey, Gergis used the experience as motivation to continue developing herself and preparing for the opportunity to represent her country.
One year later, she returns with greater experience, maturity, confidence, and determination — transforming what was once a runner-up position into a new opportunity to carry the Egyptian flag on the world’s biggest beauty pageant stage.
Her story represents perseverance, resilience, and the belief that a dream can have more than one chapter.
A message from Josh Yugen
“For me, Miss Universe has never been only about finding the most beautiful woman in the room. It is about giving women a platform where their voice, purpose, intelligence, courage, and individuality can be seen and heard. As the National Director and Franchise Owner of Miss Universe Egypt, empowering women is at the heart of why I do this work. I believe deeply in Sonia — not only because of the woman she is today, but because of the determination she showed after coming so close last year and choosing to return stronger. She reminds us that a setback does not define a woman; what defines her is how she rises from it. I believe Sonia has the heart, discipline, resilience, and potential to represent the modern Egyptian woman with pride on the Miss Universe stage. My commitment is to stand behind her, challenge her to become the strongest version of herself, and give her every opportunity to use this crown for something greater than herself. This is Sonia’s moment, but I also hope her journey becomes a message to women everywhere: believe in your worth, keep growing, and never allow one result to decide the ending of your story.”
— Josh Yugen, National Director & Franchise Owner, Miss Universe Egypt
A new chapter for Egypt
As Miss Universe Egypt 2026, Gergis will begin an intensive preparation program leading up to the competition in Puerto Rico.
Her preparation will focus on international communications, interview skills, stage presence, pasarela, fitness, styling, cultural representation, advocacy, and media training — ensuring that she is fully prepared to compete among delegates from around the world.
Beyond the competition itself, Gergis will also have the opportunity to use her platform to highlight Egypt’s rich heritage, culture, tourism, modern identity, and the stories of its people.
With the Miss Universe competition celebrating its 75th anniversary, Egypt’s participation carries added significance. Gergis will enter the historic edition not simply as a beauty queen, but as an ambassador for her country and a representative of a new generation of Egyptian women.
The comeback queen
Gergis’ story is ultimately about coming back stronger.
A First Runner-Up last year, she could have chosen to walk away from the competition. Instead, she continued to pursue her ambitions and returned with renewed determination.
Now, she has the crown.
