Marikina City opens animal rescue shelter for dogs and cats

The Marikina City government officially opened the Marikina Animal Rescue and Shelter on Sunday, providing a dedicated facility for rescued dogs and cats.

The shelter, located along Gil Fernando Avenue in front of the City Engineering Warehouse in Barangay Sto. Niño, is intended to ensure rescued animals receive proper care and protection.

The facility is a pet project of Marikina Mayor Maan Teodoro.

““Ang facility ay magsisilbing tahanan ng mga rescued na aso at pusa. Dito sila mabibigyan ng kalinga, pagkain, at kinakailangang atensiyon habang naghihintay ng kanilang adoption,” Mayor Teodoro said.

(The facility will serve as a home for rescued dogs and cats. They will be provided with care, food, and the necessary attention while they await adoption.)

According to Mayor Teodoro, the shelter will operate as a no-kill shelter, ensuring that rescued dogs and cats are given proper care and protection.

Residents can also access veterinary services through the facility, including free daily anti-rabies vaccinations and veterinary check-ups for pets.

The opening coincided with the Feast of St. Francis of Assisi, the patron saint of animals, as part of the city’s Paws & Friends Festival.

It was held alongside the PAWNTASTIC Marikina Car-Free Sunday, which featured a community pet walk, free anti-rabies vaccination, and a pet blessing.
