Korina Sanchez wanted prenup before marrying Mar Roxas: “Ayokong pakialaman niya yung konting kinikita ko!”

Broadcast journalist Korina Sanchez revealed that she once considered signing a prenuptial agreement with her husband, former senator Mar Roxas, before they got married, as she wanted to keep her personal earnings separate.

The veteran journalist shared the story during a conversation with Charo Cordial, the woman behind Maddox Jewelry. As they chatted, Korina recalled consulting a lawyer about the possibility of having a prenup before her wedding to Mar.

“Wala kaming prenup, pero noong ikakasal na kami, kumausap ako ng abogada. Sabi ko, gusto ko ng prenup,” she said.

(We did not have a prenup, but when we were about to get married, I spoke to a lawyer. I told her I wanted a prenup.)

Korina explained that she wanted to protect the money she earned, particularly because she regularly helped other people. She also used to support her nieces and nephews through their education and rescue dogs and cats in need.

“Ayokong pakialaman niya yung konting kinikita ko, kasi mahilig ako tumulong sa tao,” Korina explained.

(I don’t want him interfering with the little money I earn because I like helping people.)

She stressed that she had no intention of meddling with Mar’s finances either, emphasizing that money was never the reason she married him.

“At hindi ko rin papakialaman ang pera niya, dahil hindi naman ‘yan ang habol ko sa kanya,” she added.

(And I won’t interfere with his money either because that’s not what I’m after in him.)

Korina also recalled how her lawyer was surprised that she was the one requesting a prenup, considering that Mar was wealthier than she was. The agreement ultimately never pushed through.

Aside from her views on finances and marriage, Korina also opened up about her jewelry preferences, revealing that she is comfortable mixing expensive pieces with more affordable accessories.

When Charo asked whether she worried about being criticized for wearing imitation jewelry, Korina had a straightforward response.

“Ano’ng pakialam nila kung nagsusuot ako ng fake?” (What do they care if I wear fake jewelry?)

For Korina, wearing beautiful and elegant accessories does not necessarily mean spending a fortune on every piece.

During her visit to Maddox Jewelry, she also selected jewelry worth ₱1.1 million, joking that she deserved to enjoy the rewards of her hard work.

“I deserve it. Because I work very hard,” she said.

The conversation also touched on Korina’s commitment to animal welfare. She shared that she has been helping establish no-kill animal shelters in Siargao and Boracay while continuing to encourage people to support rescued animals.

Through the interview, Korina offered a glimpse into her personal values, from managing her own earnings and appreciating the fruits of her labor to supporting her family, helping others, and advocating for animal welfare.
