Sacrifice is the undercurrent theme in ‘Avengers: Infinity War’ (Spoiler Review)

THE SNAP: DOES DEATH REALLY EVEN COUNT?

At one point in the film, Doctor Strange acts as the prophet and predicts one successful outcome where they beat Thanos (out of the 14 million plus possibilities). With a cold rationality, he tells Tony early on that he swore an oath to put the universe’s interest over any human life. So why did he give up the time stone for Tony’s life then? By now you have already deducted that Strange somehow needs Tony to be a part of this endgame. Lose the battle now and win the war later.

A lot of theories start to float around for Avengers 4. The most popular ones are that it involves time travel and all the heroes who got spared will trade their lives to save the universe. I’m not going to fuel the fire any longer and leave it up to your speculation this time. (The last time I made my death predictions, I got whacked).

We can be less hopeful for the characters who died before “the snap” but for those who crumbled, they will be back as most of them are the future of the franchise. Without them, the following sequels will feel bland: GOTG Vol. 3 featuring the space-faring adventures of Rocket and Nebula, Shuri takes up the mantle in Black Panther 2 (seems interesting but it’s too early for now), Wong fights Mordo in Doctor Strange 2, and Parker’s best friend Ned takes up an internship on Stark Industries in Spider-Man 2.

Only Avengers 4 will tell who’s going to leave MCU for good.

IN MEMORIAM

Let’s take a moment and remember our fallen comrades who died attempting to save the universe.

“I will honor my sworn oath to protect this realm as its gatekeeper.” – Heimdall

“I assure you, brother – the sun will shine on us again!” – Loki Odinson

“He won’t stop until he destroys half the universe. Everything you know, everything you love, it will all be gone.” – Gamora

“It shouldn’t be you, but it is. It’s all right. You could never hurt me. I just feel you.” – Vision

“I’m with you ’til the end of the line, pal.” – Bucky Barnes/Winter Soldier/White Wolf

“Wakanda will no longer watch from the shadows. We can not. We must not. We will work to be an example of how we, as brothers and sisters on this earth, should treat each other.” – King T’Challa/Black Panther

“I am Groot.” – Groot

(GOTG director James Gunn revealed  in Twitter that Groot’s last line to Rocket actually means “Dad.” Feel free to cry in a fetal position.)

“I can’t control their fear, only my own.” – Wanda Maximoff/Scarlet Witch

“I just wanna make sure we consider all our options. Because people who shoot at you usually wind up shooting at me too.” – Sam Wilson/Falcon

“We kick names and take ass.” – Mantis

“I’ll do you one better, why is Gamora!?” – Drax, the Destroyer

“What Master do I serve? What am I supposed to say, Jesus?” – Peter Quill/Star-Lord

“We swore an oath to protect the Time Stone. With our lives.” – Doctor Strange

“I did think this through. You can’t be a friendly neighborhood Spider-Man if there’s no neighborhood. Okay, that didn’t make sense but you know what I’m trying to say.” – Peter Parker/Spider-Man

“Everything’s changing. A little while ago, most people went to bed thinking that the craziest thing in the world was a billionaire in a flying metal suit.” – Maria Hill

“Back in the day, I had eyes everywhere, ears everywhere else. But now, here we all are, back on Earth, with nothing but our wit, and our will to save the world. So stand.”- Nick Fury
