‘Barangay Singko Panalo’ offers new sitcom/game show format: ‘Palarong gaya sa parties, piyesta’

The Kapatid Network, TV5, invites its viewers to indulge in the excitement of Barangay Singko Panalo, an innovative blend of a game show and sitcom inspired by the daily lives of Filipinos.

Offering participants the opportunity to win up to P100,000 daily, this original production promises a delightful and relatable experience.

Here are some snaps for the media conference of Barangay Singko Panalo held at TV5 Novaliches, together with the show’s hosts Jerald Napoles and Kayla Rivera; directors Perci Intalan, Rich Ilustre, and Nico Faustino; and TV5 COO Dino Laurena.

The format’s origin and novelty

When asked about the origin of this new game show, Direk Perci expressed, “Actually, when we were thinking of a game show we were going to present to TV5, iniisip namin yung masaya — masaya lang, yun ang gusto namin gawin.”

(“Actually, when we were thinking about a game show to present to TV5, we were thinking about something joyful — just joy, that’s what we wanted to do.”)

Continuing, he reflected on their approach. “E matagal na rin tayo sa industriya, parang inisip namin, ‘Ano ba yung masaya?’ Then we thought, ang sarap gumawa ng game show na ginagaya sa mga Christmas party, sa barangay… Nabuo yon! Gawa tayo ng masaya lang! Simple lang yung game, hindi kailangang mahabang mechanics para intindihin, magagawa mo ba sa bahay kasi all the props are actually available sa bahay…”

(“We’ve been in the industry for a long time, so we thought, ‘What is joyful?’ Then we thought, it’s nice to create a game show modeled after Christmas parties, neighborhoods… That’s how it came about! Let’s make it simple and joyful! The game is simple, no need for lengthy mechanics to understand, you can do it at home because all the props are actually available at home…”)

Direk Rich then explained the shift in setting, stating, “Doon na ipinanganak yung idea na what if barangay ang environment.”

(“That’s where the idea was born, what if the environment is a neighborhood.”)

He further elaborated, “Yung slot kasi namin is 5:30 [in the afternoon], so usually galing yung mga tao sa trabaho, sa school, di ba? And then we wanted something light na masaya.”

(“Our time slot is 5:30 [in the afternoon], so usually people are coming from work, school, right? And then we wanted something light and joyful.”)

Hosted by the charismatic Kagawad Je (Jerald Napoles) and the charming SK Kayla (Kayla Rivera), alongside Kap Al played by Ej Gonzaga and other vibrant Barangay Singko members, the show guarantees an entertaining evening for the entire community.

Direk Rich emphasized the inclusion of characters within the show’s setting, stating, “Itong mga location dito… lahat yan may mga character. Yun yung concept niya na instead of yung usual na merong game master, gawa tayo ng characters, di ba, na parang nag-i-skit sila…”

(“These locations here… all of them have characters. That’s the concept, instead of the usual having a game master, let’s create characters, right, who are like doing skits…”)

The games’ (and the shows’) evolving nature

Direk Rich also elaborated, “Merong kuwento yan, merong storyline per day, per week. Mula sa kuwento nila, kung ano’ng nangyari sa barangay nila, whether birthday ng Kapitan o meron siyang problema sa tubig, do’n nagfu-flow yung game.”

(“There’s a story, a storyline per day, per week. From their stories, whatever happened in their neighborhood, whether it’s the captain’s birthday or he has a problem with water, that’s where the game flows.”)

“So, actually, the game also changes from time to time, depende sa nangyari sa barangay… It’s really a new thing, it’s a new format na sana magustuhan ng mga tao pag lumabas na.”

(“So, actually, the game also changes from time to time, depending on what happened in the neighborhood… It’s really a new thing, a new format that we hope people will like when it comes out.”)

Barangay Singko Panalo unfolds unique episodes that showcase the diverse challenges faced by contestants from different barangays. Participants must navigate unpredictable challenges throughout the rounds, with only one advancing to the jackpot round for a chance to win up to P100,000.

The game show aims to captivate barangay communities nationwide, offering a shared experience of fun, prizes, and surprises that can positively impact people’s lives. Featuring a whimsical cast led by Kagawad Je and SK Kyla, Barangay Singko Panalo injects humor into community life, ensuring both studio players and home viewers are entertained and eager for more.
