Negi’s ₱400k ‘fake’ ring? Comedian sets record straight after Maddox Jewelry visit

Comedian Negi revealed that she also invests in jewelry, sharing her interest while following Maddox Jewelry and the live selling sessions of its Founder and President, Ms. Charo Cordial.

During her visit, Negi brought along a ring that, according to her, is often dismissed by others as fake. She said she purchased the piece in Dubai for around ₱400,000—close to half a million pesos—but has received offers of only ₱25,000 from people who doubted its authenticity.

The ring was later assessed at Maddox, where Ms. Charo noted that it appeared to be made of genuine diamond and gold, confirming Negi’s earlier belief about the item.

Negi also looked through several pieces at the showroom and quickly took interest in a pair of diamond stud earrings. She expressed surprise upon learning that similar items were priced lower locally compared to what she paid abroad, remarking that she could have saved more had she purchased them in the Philippines.

She also pointed out a ‘love ring’ that caught her attention, jokingly addressing a partner as she commented on the piece.

Beyond jewelry, Negi shared parts of her personal journey, noting similarities with Ms. Charo’s background. While Ms. Charo worked hard to finish her studies, Negi recalled starting from humble beginnings, including earning ₱3 per deboned milkfish before eventually becoming a performer on shows such as ‘Eat Bulaga’ and ‘Gandang Gabi Vice’. These experiences contributed to her rise as a comedian in bars, film, and television.

She also recounted a remark from a former friend who later became a teacher, who once told her she would not succeed due to not finishing school. Negi admitted that the comment initially hurt her but later became a source of motivation.

Determined to change her circumstances, she said she pushed herself beyond her comfort zone and pursued opportunities outside what she initially believed was her limit.

Negi later shared that she encountered the same individual years after, noting the contrast in their situations. She said she took the moment as an opportunity to express gratitude rather than boast, describing it as a personal reminder of how far she had come.

Ms. Charo echoed her sentiments, saying that people who are often underestimated sometimes go on to achieve success. She also shared her own experiences of being judged in her younger years, which similarly fueled her drive.

Both Negi and Ms. Charo said that criticism and doubt became key motivations in their respective journeys.
