Kapamilya Amy Perez chose to remain with ABS-CBN despite receiving reportedly significant offers from other networks after the media giant lost its broadcast franchise.
The TV host-actress opened up about her decision during a conversation with Charo Cordial of Maddox Jewelry, where she also talked about her nearly four-decade career in showbiz.
Amy visited Maddox Jewelry after hearing about the brand’s natural diamond pieces. While browsing the jewelry, their conversation eventually turned to her long career in the entertainment industry, including her experience with ABS-CBN.
When the topic of ABS-CBN’s franchise loss came up, Amy revealed that she received several offers but ultimately decided not to leave the network.
“Kahit na gano’n kalaki pa yung offer, okay na ako dito sa ABS,” Amy said.
(Even if the offer was that big, I’m already okay here at ABS.)
Amy said she has deep gratitude toward ABS-CBN, particularly because of how the network supported its employees and talents during the COVID-19 pandemic.
“Kahit nung pandemic, tatlong buwan hindi kami nagtatrabaho, pinapasweldo kami ng ABS noon,” she said.
(Even during the pandemic, when we weren’t working for three months, ABS still paid our salaries.)
She also credited ABS-CBN as the network where her television career truly began.
“My whole TV career, I think I would say na nagsimula talaga siya sa ABS-CBN.” (It really started at ABS-CBN.)
Amy recalled seeking a sign from God when she was faced with the decision of whether to accept the offers from other networks.
The answer she felt she received was clear: “No, Amy, huwag kang lumipat.”
(No, Amy, don’t transfer.)
“So hindi ako lumipat. And I stayed with ABS up to now,” she said.
(So I didn’t transfer. And I stayed with ABS up to now.)
During their conversation, Amy also talked about her bond with her fellow hosts on ‘It’s Showtime.’ She described their relationship as being like siblings despite their different personalities.
After spending a decade on the program, Amy said the hosts have seen each other’s strengths and weaknesses—including her own moments of being irritable while going through perimenopause.
“Na-witness nilang lahat talaga yung kasungitan ko,” she said with a laugh.
(They really witnessed all of my irritability.)
Amy has experienced several chapters throughout her nearly four decades in showbiz, but when it came to ABS-CBN, a network that has played a major role in her television career, she chose to stay despite receiving other opportunities.
