Rapper Pio Balbuena and Senator Bam Aquino have teamed up to donate 21 laptops to students of P. Burgos Elementary School in Manila using proceeds from the auction of a 1-of-1 Tambay Cap.
Miguel “Migs” Valerio of MV Shoes and Apparel won the auction with a bid of P410,000 for the unique Tambay Cap.
According to Migs, he initially planned to bid only P50,000 for the Tambay Cap but decided to increase his offer after learning that the proceeds would be used to help students in need.
Senator Bam thanked Migs, saying his winning bid would help many students.
“Ang daming matutulungan nitong nabili mo. Of course, napakaganda nung Tambay Cap but yung pinambili mo will help so many kids. So maraming, maraming salamat,” said Sen. Bam, chairperson of the Senate Committee on Basic Education.
Pio and Migs then went to EasyPC to purchase 11 laptops for students of P. Burgos Elementary School in Manila, in coordination with the office of Manila Mayor Isko Moreno Domagoso.
In support of the initiative by Sen. Bam and Pio, EasyPC pledged to donate an additional 10 laptops, bringing the total number of units distributed to the school to 21 and the total value of the auctioned Tambay Cap to P610,000.
Pio said that aside from the laptops, part of the proceeds from the Tambay Cap auction was used to buy 220 Pabaon Packs for Grade 6 students of P. Burgos Elementary School.
Pio also distributed 35 Tambay Caps to Grade 6 students, while MV Shoes and Apparel gave away 30 bags for teachers.
This is the second year that Pio and Sen. Bam have auctioned a Tambay Cap to raise funds to purchase laptops for students.
Last year, the two were able to purchase 10 laptops for students of Marikina High School using the P155,000 raised from the Tambay Cap auction.
EasyPC added another 10 laptops, bringing the total to 20 units distributed to students in Marikina City, led by Mayor Maan Teodoro.
Pio said his initiative aims to contribute to Sen. Bam’s efforts to promote quality education by providing students with tools that can support their learning.
Pio owns the internationally recognized “Tambay” caps. Through his company, Tambay Traders Inc., he also provides livelihood opportunities for people who are unemployed.
