Moviegoers have one more chance to catch Sassa Gurl and Joao Constancia in ‘Multwoh,’ a supernatural romantic comedy that explores queer love, regret, and second chances. The Puregold CinePanalo film follows two best friends whose relationship takes an unexpected turn, blending humor and tenderness with the heartbreak of unspoken feelings.
Directed by Rodina Singh, the film centers on Marcel, a college student who returns as a ghost after dying before confessing her feelings to her best friend, Miguel. Her unfinished confession sets the stage for a story about missed opportunities, the courage to express one’s emotions, and the connections that can endure beyond death.
Sassa and Joao earned nominations for Panalong Aktres and Panalong Aktor, respectively, at the 2026 Puregold CinePanalo Film Festival. Through their performances, the two actors bring emotional depth to characters whose affection for each other is complicated by hesitation and the realization that some chances may never come again.
Sassa Gurl beyond the comedy
Audiences know Sassa Gurl for her irreverent humor and larger-than-life online personality, but her acting career has steadily revealed another side of her talent.
Following appearances in “Balota” and “Bar Boys: After School,” the latter earning her Breakthrough Actress of the Year at the 2026 Platinum Stallion National Media Awards, Sassa takes on a more emotionally restrained role in “Multwoh.”
Unlike her outgoing public persona, Marcel is shy, reserved, and hesitant to express her feelings. Portraying her required Sassa to rely on subtle gestures and quiet emotional moments rather than the exaggerated expressions associated with her comedy.
“I think that’s one of the beautiful things about acting. You get to step outside yourself and discover different ways of being, loving, and experiencing the world,” Sassa shared.
For the actress, Marcel also represents the many ways people experience and express queerness. She wanted audiences to recognize the character as an ordinary person whose dreams, fears, and desires deserve understanding.
Finding the right chemistry with Joao was equally important. Although romantic scenes initially pushed Sassa beyond her comfort zone, their connection developed naturally.
“On our first day pa lang, kinilig na agad ako,” she recalled.
Sassa credited Joao’s openness and willingness to explore their scenes for making their romantic moments feel spontaneous and believable.
Joao Constancia shows his emotional range
Joao, who first gained recognition as a member of BoybandPH, has since expanded his acting career through projects such as “He’s Into Her” and “Can’t Buy Me Love.”
In “Multwoh,” he portrays Miguel, a young man confronting the possibility that he may have missed his chance at love.
“What drew me to my character is the yearning he felt for the love and the opportunity he regretted. I think that’s the feeling everyone can relate to, including me,” Joao explained.
The role challenged him to communicate emotions beyond romantic chemistry, particularly the longing and regret that define Miguel’s relationship with Marcel.
For Joao, the film is also an opportunity to demonstrate his versatility as an actor.
“I want audiences to discover that I’m a real actor who can actually act—na may depth ako. Yung hindi puro pakilig-kilig lang kaya kong gawin,” he shared.
His performance gives Miguel an emotional complexity that complements Marcel’s quieter struggles, allowing their relationship to unfold through moments of humor, vulnerability, and unresolved affection.
A love story beyond death
For Sassa, Marcel’s story carries a deeper significance.
As a trans performer, she identifies with the character’s journey of self-discovery and believes queer stories should explore the full range of human experiences rather than define characters solely through tragedy.
Although Marcel’s death sets the story in motion, Sassa emphasizes that it should not overshadow the life the character lived.
“Our lives are defined by how we live, not by how we die,” she said.
That perspective gives “Multwoh” an emotional foundation beneath its supernatural premise. Marcel’s return as a ghost may offer another opportunity to confront her feelings, but the film also celebrates the relationships, aspirations, and everyday experiences that give life meaning.
The actress has embraced the film’s unconventional storytelling even in its promotion, including a coffin stunt that drew attention to its ghostly premise.
Beyond the spectacle, however, Sassa hopes audiences will discover a story that delivers laughter and romance while encouraging reflection on love, acceptance, and missed opportunities.
