The Movie and Television Review and Classification Board (MTRCB) recently launched their latest campaign called Responsableng Panonood (RP) in order to urge Filipino viewers to ‘Klik Responsibly.’ The event was held last July 14, 2023 at the Cinema 5 of Trinoma Mall, Quezon City.

This effort is in line with President Ferdinand “Bongbong” Marcos Jr.’s goal to promote media and information literacy nationwide.

“The RP Campaign is the Board’s response to the ever-evolving media landscape. Mindful of the benefits and disadvantages of the media evolution, we encourage Filipinos to practice responsible viewership, to ‘Klik Responsibly’,” said MTRCB Chairperson Lala Sotto-Antonio.

She emphasized the crucial role of the family, especially the adults, in molding the character of the Filipino child.

“We believe that values begin at home,” Sotto-Antonio said. “We recognize that the family unit serves as the bedrock of our society, where our shared values are nurtured and cherished.”

Njel De Mesa, the MTRCB Vice Chairperson, said that under the Responsableng Panonood campaign are various information and education activities to equip members of Filipino households with the necessary knowledge and tools to guide the youth in making fully informed choices regarding film and media content. De Mesa also thanked individuals and organizations that have contributed to the successful event launch.

MTRCB Board Member Dr. Lillian “Ali” Gui, a registered psychologist and a child psychotherapist, pointed out the role of parents in guiding children in the digital age.

Huwag natin palakihin ang mga anak natin sa piling ng cellphone,” Gui said.  “In the first place, ang pagpapalaki at kinabukasan ng mga anak natin ay nakasalalay sa mga kamay natin bilang mga magulang.”

Gracing the occasion were representatives from government and non-government institutions, including the Department of Education – Schools Division Office Quezon City, National Council for Childrens Television (NCCT), Ayala Malls and Quezon City Federation of Parents and Teachers Association (QCFPTA).  Also represented were MTRCB’s international partners, such as the Singapore-based Asia Video Industry Association (AVIA), Netflix and Warner Bros.

The event drew stakeholders from various sectors who discussed the pressing concerns brought about by the rapid advancements in media technology.

A panel discussion on digital parenting, moderated by Board Member Atty. Ma. Gabriela “Gaby” Concepcion, highlighted the importance of fostering responsible movie-viewing protocols among the younger generation. Panelists included Dr. Gui and former board members Teresita “Tessie” Villarama and Bobby Andrews.

RP parent advocates, influencers, celebrities and politicians were also present, among them Ciara Sotto, Quezon City Councilor Candy Medina, Pasig Councilor Angelu de Leon, Joy Sotto, Rosselle Taberna, Jennifer Go, and Tessa Mauricio-Arriola.  They recognized the critical role that responsible viewership play in shaping the character of children.

The launch also witnessed the introduction of Klik, the MTRCB mascot, which was accompanied by the bouncy jingle, “Iklik mo ‘yan,” performed to a standing ovation by Vice Chairman De Mesa. It was written and composed by board members Richard Reynoso, Neal Del Rosario and De Mesa himself.
